The Center has two arms that work independently and/or collaboratively, to engage and advance women and the BGLTQ+ community at the University of Central Oklahoma, the great Oklahoma City metropolitan region and beyond. The Women's Research Center at UCO collaborates with scholars and activists on campus and off campus in interdisciplinary scholarly, creative, and pedagogical projects in the field

It promotes intellectual engagement with women's and gender issues and supports the interdisciplinary Gender and Sexuality Studies major and minor as well as host conferences and symposia about women's issues. Furthermore, it makes available to the campus community materials relevant to women's health, models good health practices, and supports the development of campus childcare services. The BGLTQ+ Student Center supports bisexual, gay, le***an, transgender, intersex, asexual, q***r, questioning, and allied students by hosting educational and social programs that address issues of concern of the BGLTQ+ community; by sponsoring student organizations that serve the BGLTQ+ students and their allies and provide leadership opportunities for BGLTQ+ students; by advocating for BGLTQ+ students in university- and unit-level strategic planning, budgeting, curricular development, and programming processes, and by promoting civic engagement and fostering strategic partnerships in the wider BGLTQ+ community.

The Center is open for the summer, and we are keeping busy! Last Friday, our student researchers Moon, Parker, and Luke, along with Center Director Dr. Churchill, spoke on a panel about how therapists can better support their LGBTQIA+ clients and clients from various backgrounds. We are so grateful to our mental health professionals, who help run the organization OK-SAIGE, a division of the American Counseling Association. We also appreciate all of the new friends we met at the symposium and can't wait for next year!

For the next month, we are raising $6,000 to support two urgent priorities: emergency scholarships for students in crisis and funding the next phase of digitizing the Trella Laughlin โ€œLet the People Speakโ€ tape collection.

The Center at UCO is more than a campus office. It is a place of advocacy, research, belonging, and direct support for students and the broader community. As home to the Womenโ€™s Research Center and the BGLTQ+ Student Center, The Center provides resources that change lives today while preserving stories that matter for tomorrow. Please consider donating today! ๐Ÿ’ซ๐ŸŒˆ
