REV UP New Jersey REV UP NJ is designed to get more people with disabilities and our supporters registered and voting! We cannot rest on our past victories. USE YOUR POWER!

The Alliance Center for Independence (ACI) has teamed up with Bob Kafka and the Texas Disability Project to become a NJ partner in the REV UP Campaign (Register, Educate, Vote, Use our Power)! The campaign is designed to get more people with disabilities and our supporters registered and voting! We must build on the past and move forward using the power we have acquired. This power can be exerted by Making the DISABILITY VOTE Count! Policymakers are influenced by large numbers of people turning out to vote in the primaries and the general elections. Together we have the power to change our communities! "More than at any time in memory: Issues important to people with disabilities must be part of any candidate’s platform running for public office. To Vote: First you must Register. Over 100 advocates, supporters, and community leaders gathered at the Trenton War Memorial on October 5th for the REV UP New Jersey rally, "Our Pride. Our Power. Our Community."

We gathered because the civil rights, services, and supports that allow people with disabilities to live independently are under threat. Cuts to Medicaid and SNAP, challenges to Section 504 protections, barriers to accessible housing and transportation, and policies that could force more disabled people into institutions affect real people, families, and communities.

We gathered to remind our elected officials that people with disabilities have the right to make choices about their own lives, live in their communities, receive the services they need, and participate fully in civic life.

The rally also recognized October 5th as Disability Rights Day in New Jersey through a proclamation issued by Governor Mikie Sherrill. We appreciate the support of the Governor’s Office, Senator Cory Booker, Senator Andy Kim, Congressman Frank Pallone, Assemblywoman Carol Murphy, Assemblywoman Aura Dunn, and the representatives who joined us or shared messages of support.

We also thank the New Jersey Council on Developmental Disabilities, the New Jersey Statewide Independent Living Council, the New Jersey Association of Centers for Independent Living, AAPD REV UP, the speakers, volunteers, staff, and organizations that helped make the day possible.

Our greatest thanks go to the advocates who showed up, spoke out, shared their experiences, registered to vote, and stood together in defense of disability rights!

The message heard throughout the day was clear…

WE WILL NOT GO BACK!

The rally may be over, but our work continues. We will continue working to protect civil rights, community living, choice, independence, and opportunity.

TODAY at noon in Trenton!

Join REV UP NJ and the Centers for Independent Living on October 5th in Trenton for an important Disability Rights Rally bringing together people with disabilities, families, advocates, organizations, and allies from across New Jersey.

This is an important time for the disability community to come together in solidarity. People with disabilities are facing significant challenges on the federal level that could affect civil rights, access to home and community supports, health care, and other protections that people with disabilities have fought for over many years.

Our rights cannot be taken for granted. This rally is an opportunity to come together, be visible, learn about the issues affecting our community, and remind our elected officials that disability rights are civil rights.

Based on the response we have received so far, we are expecting a strong turnout from across New Jersey. The Governor and state legislators have been invited to attend, and guest speakers from Washington, D.C. will be joining us.
