REV UP New Jersey

REV UP New Jersey REV UP NJ is designed to get more people with disabilities and our supporters registered and voting! We cannot rest on our past victories. USE YOUR POWER!

The Alliance Center for Independence (ACI) has teamed up with Bob Kafka and the Texas Disability Project to become a NJ partner in the REV UP Campaign (Register, Educate, Vote, Use our Power)! The campaign is designed to get more people with disabilities and our supporters registered and voting! We must build on the past and move forward using the power we have acquired. This power can be exerted

by Making the DISABILITY VOTE Count! Policymakers are influenced by large numbers of people turning out to vote in the primaries and the general elections. Together we have the power to change our communities! "More than at any time in memory: Issues important to people with disabilities must be part of any candidate’s platform running for public office. To Vote: First you must Register. Get Educated on the issues. Then most important you must Vote. Together We Can Make a Difference!" - Bob Kafka, ADAPT

Join thousands of New Jerseyites with disabilities, family members and our supporters in important upcoming elections! Join us in the REV UP Campaign of New Jersey! This work is supported with a grant from the NJ Council on Developmental Disabilities.

On June 1st, the NJ Senate Transportation Committee passed S-3786, a bll that requires Access Link and paratransit services throughout the state to announce stops for passengers. S-3786 is sponsored by Senator Angela McKnight.

The Assembly version of the bill, A-2132, is sponsored by Assemblywoman Linda Carter. A-2132 passed the Assembly Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee on May 7th and the full NJ Assembly on May 18th.

Also on June 1st, the Assembly Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee passed A-2130, which establishes two 15 member Passenger Advisory Committees (one in North Jersey and one in South Jersey). A-2130 is also sponsored by Assemblywoman Linda Carter.

ACI's Carole Tonks, Luke Koppisch, and Alba Milla provided in-person testimonies at the committee hearings and several volunteers and supporters provided written testimony.

Another bill, A-2131, would require NJ Transit operators and contractors to implement a training curriculum focused on assisting passengers with disabilities during emergencies and service disruptions. This is awaiting action in the Assembly Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee.

ACI wishes to thank Assemblywoman Carter and Senator McKnight for their support for the transportation rights of people with disabilities.

PETITION: Restore $3 Million in the NJ Budget for Centers for Independent Living!

Centers for Independent Living (CILs) are community-based, nonprofit organizations that serve individuals of all ages and all disabilities across New Jersey. Unlike many providers, the 12 CILs in NJ are cross-disability and lifespan-based, meeting people where they are and supporting them at every stage of life.

The proposed elimination of the $3 million state budget line item threatens:
- Access to critical, community-based supports
- Independence for people with disabilities
- Stability of services across New Jersey

At the same time, federal funding through the Administration for Community Living is uncertain, increasing the urgency for state investment.

In a state budget of billions, $3 million is a small investment, but without it, the cost to people with disabilities and their families is immeasurable.

Please help us by sharing this and signing our petition at the link below!
