We are so excited to continue announcing our new board members! Our STEP Board family is growing! We recently added five new incredible individuals to our board. While we revealed them at a recent STEP UP coalition meeting, we are so happy to be showing them off on social media. These individuals represent different identities, experiences, and parts of the Rio Grande Valley and have already demonstrated a commitment to the work that STEP does and to the larger LGBTQ+ community in the RGV.
Guy Duke (they/them) is a nonbinary and bisexual archaeologist, professor, poet, artist, zine-maker, and parent originally from Canada who now lives in McAllen, Texas.
Because today is Nonbinary Parents Day and because April is both Autism Awareness Month and National Poetry Month, we asked Guy to share not only what STEP means to them and why they are excited to be a part of the board but also how autism intersects with their q***r identity and how poetry has been a powerful vehicle for their self-expression.
