We had a fun and busy October! We had our Raingutter Regatta, a Hiking Club learning how to building shelters and a Hiking Club where kids learned to use maps to find Pokémon, and our Halloween party.

We’re so grateful for all the parent volunteers who made this month so special for the scouts! Thank you!

For our first camping trip this year we had a whole loop of the campground to ourselves. One of our leaders summed it up so perfectly describing it like a culdesac in the 1950’s where the kids just ran and played safely outside without all the screens. We’re hoping to have some camping trips that feel more educational, but this one was all about the vibes. Tucked deep into the Manzanos, we were surrounded by tall pines. When we showed up Friday night we had just enough time to set up our tents before the rain came. Thankfully one of our leaders showed up with a sun shade that very quickly turned into a rain shade. We all huddled underneath making our dinners. We spent the rest of the weekend making beautiful memories; shadow puppet shows, skits, and s’mores by the campfire, using maps to find geoches, hikes, games, roasting apples from wild apple trees, nature sightings (snakes, turkeys and deer!), making trail mix, and right before we packed up our cars to head home, the kids scooped ash out of all the fire rings to help out the forest service.

When I think about scouts this is what I think of. The kids played, learned new skills, and helped out their community.

What is your favorite memory from the weekend?

It was a busy week for the scouts! We had Scout Day at the Isotopes game, recruitment night, we helped the Lions Club with a food drive for the East Mountains Food Pantry, and it was our first weekend selling popcorn! 🙌

Thanks to all the amazing families who came out on recruitment night. We had a blast getting to know so many new faces and look forward to scouts with all of our new cubs!

Thanks to the scouts who came out to help the Lions Club collect food donations! The Lions Club said, “We collected 2,217 food items and raised $583 for East Mountain Food Pantry; the amount of food donations could be a new record for the club!”

Whether it’s having fun or volunteering with your community, there’s always something going on with scouts!

Our pack is so excited to introduce Hiking Club! Our Tiger den leader Nell will lead scouts once a month on the trail with the objective of learning new outdoors skills and giving scouts the opportunity to earn Hiking Club chips.

This week scouts learned about trail etiquette, leave no trace principles, and they used their compasses to find a hidden geo cache filled with prizes!

Recruitment night is Monday the 8th at EVCA at 6:30 PM. Join us to learn more or DM us with any questions!

A big part of Scouts is about helping kids grow confidence and teaching them how to overcome obstacles. There are few places better to encourage those traits than in the rock climbing gym.

When you let kids do “scary” things in a safe environment, confidence is born. ✨
