For our first camping trip this year we had a whole loop of the campground to ourselves. One of our leaders summed it up so perfectly describing it like a culdesac in the 1950’s where the kids just ran and played safely outside without all the screens. We’re hoping to have some camping trips that feel more educational, but this one was all about the vibes. Tucked deep into the Manzanos, we were surrounded by tall pines. When we showed up Friday night we had just enough time to set up our tents before the rain came. Thankfully one of our leaders showed up with a sun shade that very quickly turned into a rain shade. We all huddled underneath making our dinners. We spent the rest of the weekend making beautiful memories; shadow puppet shows, skits, and s’mores by the campfire, using maps to find geoches, hikes, games, roasting apples from wild apple trees, nature sightings (snakes, turkeys and deer!), making trail mix, and right before we packed up our cars to head home, the kids scooped ash out of all the fire rings to help out the forest service.
When I think about scouts this is what I think of. The kids played, learned new skills, and helped out their community.
What is your favorite memory from the weekend?
