We had a death in the family. Mr. Frodo a/k/a The Dude, our famous little Eastern Screech Owl, is no longer with us, succumbing to some weird fungal infection which weakened his old little body. Frodo was 18 years old and part of our family since almost the beginning. He was best friends with Katie, the American Kestrel, and the two of them were regulars at Volusia County elementary schools, public libraries, the Marine Discovery Center every summer, and anywhere that anyone wanted to learn about native Florida Birds of Prey.
Mr. Frodo was a chick magnet. He was an adorable ambassador and a true screech owl. He had a bad grumpy attitude, he was always in "invisible" mode, did NOT like to be touched, but was a true little warrior and would sit forever on your glove, entertaining and educating thousands of people over his lifetime.
I can hardly believe it. His girlfriend, Katie, has been gone for 3 years. What am I gonna do without my little ones? I guess they will Fly Free Together Forever. I love you, little man.
