Based in Edgewater, we meet every Monday at 7:00 PM at American Legion Post 226.

It can be used as a sling, bandage, sweatband, sun protection, water pre-filter, emergency signal, pot holder, and dozens of other practical uses in the outdoors!

In 2012, members of Troop 249 took on one of Scouting’s most iconic hikes—Mount Katahdin in Maine.

Reaching the summit wasn’t just about the view. It took months of preparation, teamwork, determination, and encouraging one another every step of the way.

Every adventure in Scouting—whether it’s a mountain hike, a weekend campout, or learning a new skill—helps build confidence and resilience that lasts a lifetime.

We’re proud of the Scouts who made this trek and the legacy of adventure they continue to inspire.

Some of Scouting’s Best Memories Are Made Around the Campfire

Did you know that campfires have been part of Scouting for more than 100 years?

While campfires provide warmth and light, they’ve always been about something even more important—bringing people together.

It’s where Scouts share stories, sing songs, celebrate accomplishments, laugh with friends, and reflect on the adventures of the day. Some of the best memories from summer camp aren’t made during merit badges—they’re made around the campfire.

For generations, Troop 249 Scouts have gathered around the fire to strengthen friendships and create memories that last a lifetime.

The dining hall may be different. The uniforms have changed a bit. Some of the faces are new.

But one thing hasn’t changed…

The laughter around the tables, the friendships built over meals, and the memories made at summer camp.

For generations, Troop 249 Scouts have gathered around tables like these to share meals, swap stories, and build friendships that last long after camp ends. That’s a tradition we’re proud to carry forward.

🛠️ Fun Fact Friday 🛠️

Did you know that our Scouts attending summer camp also participate in a service project?

While summer camp is filled with hiking, swimming, merit badges, campfires, and new friendships, Scouts also take time to give back to the camp that makes those experiences possible. Camp Sinoquipe has a long tradition of incorporating service into the summer camp experience.

This year, the Scouts of Troop 249 rolled up their sleeves and built benches for Camp Sinoquipe, creating a place where future campers can rest, gather, and enjoy the outdoors for years to come.

One of the values of Scouting is leaving a place better than you found it. We’re proud of our Scouts for not only enjoying everything camp has to offer, but also making a lasting contribution for those who will follow.

🏕️ Safe Travels to the Baltimore Area Contingent! 🇺🇸

The adventure of a lifetime begins now!

We’d like to wish the Baltimore Area Contingent safe travels as they head to the 2026 Scouting America National Jamboree at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia.

The National Jamboree brings together thousands of Scouts from across the country for an unforgettable experience filled with adventure, leadership, fellowship, and memories that will last a lifetime.

Troop 249 is proud to be represented in this year’s contingent! We know our Scouts will represent our troop, our community, and the Baltimore Area Council with the Scout Oath and Scout Law guiding them every step of the way.

To all of the Scouts, leaders, and volunteers attending—have an incredible time, make new friends, embrace every adventure, and come home with stories you’ll be telling for years to come.

We’ll be cheering you on from Edgewater!
