🎉 Fun Fact Friday! ⚜️

Scouting skills don’t stay at Scout meetings and campouts — they become part of who you are for life.

Recently, some Troop 249 families were out family camping when they suddenly heard a loud crash nearby. An RV camper had an accident and needed help.

Without hesitation, a Troop 249 Eagle Scout (adult) jumped into action to help the camper, assess the situation, and get the RV moved to a safer location.

That’s one of the amazing things about Scouting — leadership, problem-solving, staying calm under pressure, and helping others become second nature. Whether you’re at a troop event or just out enjoying time with family and friends, those lessons stick with you for life.

Once a Scout, always a Scout. 💙

⬅️ Throwback Post to one of those perfect Scouting moments you couldn’t plan if you tried 🌈🧭

While out orienteering and searching for the “treasure,” our Scouts were focused on maps, compass bearings, and finding the next checkpoint… when nature decided to surprise us with a treasure of its own — a beautiful rainbow stretching across the sky.

Moments like this are part of what makes Scouting so special. Sometimes the adventure isn’t just about reaching the destination — it’s about what you discover along the way.

🇺🇸 Calling All Collectors! 🇺🇸

Some moments in history only come around once.

The 2026 Official White House Ornament commemorates the 250th Anniversary of the United States—a milestone that won’t be celebrated again in our lifetimes.

Featuring the Declaration of Independence framed in 24-karat gold on the front and an intricately detailed White House on the reverse, this ornament is more than a holiday decoration—it’s a piece of American history.

Whether you’re a longtime White House Ornament collector, a history enthusiast, or simply someone who appreciates preserving our nation’s heritage, this is an ornament you’ll want in your collection.

And when you purchase through Troop 249, you’re not only celebrating America’s past—you’re helping support the next generation of leaders through Scouting adventures, service projects, and outdoor experiences.

Did you know one of the coolest things about Troop 249 is that our Scouts come from all over?

Even though we’re based in Edgewater, our Scouts come from Annapolis, Crofton, Davidsonville, Shady Side, and beyond — and many attend different schools, have different interests, and started Scouting at different times.

But around the campfire, on the trail, or working together on a service project… none of that matters.

Because in Scouting, friendship has no borders. Adventure has no borders. And belonging has no borders. 💙

At Troop 249, YOU belong here.

⬅️Throwback Post to sparks flying and Scouts learning real hands-on skills! 🔥⚒️

These photos may be from different events, but they all have one thing in common — our Scouts getting the chance to explore welding and work toward the Welding Merit Badge.

From safety and technique to creating actual projects, welding gives Scouts the opportunity to learn patience, precision, and problem-solving while working with skilled mentors. And let’s be honest… anything involving sparks is usually a hit with Scouts 😄

One of the best parts of Scouting is getting to try things you might never experience anywhere else — and discovering talents and interests along the way.

🇺🇸 Today, Scouts from Troop 249 had the honor of placing American flags at the graves of veterans in preparation for Memorial Day. These flags, generously provided by our chartered organization, American Legion Post 226, serve as a simple but powerful reminder that the sacrifices of our nation’s heroes will never be forgotten.

For our Scouts, this is more than a service project — it is a meaningful act of remembrance, gratitude, and respect. Each flag represents a life dedicated to serving our country and protecting the freedoms we enjoy today.

As we head into Memorial Day weekend, we encourage everyone to take a moment to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. 🇺🇸

Fun Fact Friday! ⛺

Did you know that Scouts learn how to set up and take care of their own tents?

In Troop 249, Scouts are responsible for pitching their tents, choosing a good campsite, and making sure their gear is cleaned, dried, and packed properly after each trip. Learning to care for equipment teaches responsibility, teamwork, and pride in doing things the right way.

Plus, there’s nothing quite like crawling into a tent you set up yourself after a full day of adventure.

Because in Scouting, learning to take care of your gear is just another way to Be Prepared. ⚜️

⬅️ Throwback Post to summer camp at Hawk Mountain!

One of our Scouts came close to getting an unexpected splash landing on the zipline course 😆 Thankfully, the taller Scout remembered to pick up his feet — otherwise he would have enjoyed a cool, summer dip in the lake!

From campfires and hikes to ziplining adventures like this, summer camp memories are the ones Scouts talk about for years.

Fun Fact Friday! ⛺⚜️

Did you know many Scout camps offer a special first-year program designed just for new Scouts?

During their first summer at camp, new Scouts have the chance to focus on learning the core skills of Scouting — things like knots, first aid, fire building, map and compass, and other outdoor basics that help them grow in confidence. These programs help younger Scouts build a strong foundation while also experiencing all the fun and adventure that summer camp has to offer.

It’s a great way for new Scouts to learn, make friends, and start their Scouting journey with success.

Throwback Post! 🐾⚜️

Throwing it back to summer camp, where our Scouts explored the world of Veterinary Science.

During this program, Scouts learned about how veterinarians care for animals, the basics of animal health, and what it takes to work with animals in a professional setting. It was a great opportunity to learn something new while connecting science with real-world careers.

Summer camp is always full of discovery — from outdoor adventures to hands-on learning experiences like this one.
