Cristian Rivera Foundation www.cristianriverafoundation.org On January 22, 2007, NYC entrepreneuer John “Gungie” Rivera’s four-year-old son Cristian became one of those children.

Every year, 300 children in the United States are diagnosed with a rare, inoperable brain stem tumor called Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) for which there is no cure. DIPG claimed Cristian’s life at the young age of 6, but John’s journey with his son gave him the strength to believe that he could make a difference in the fight against DIPG. A passionate advocate, accomplished attorney, and dedicated leader, Melinda brings both heart and purpose to the mission of the Cristian Rivera Foundation. Her hard work has helped to grow the visibility of CRF tremendously and helped to increase its ability to raise funds while fostering deep, long-lasting connections with families who are affected by D.I.P.G. Melinda believes that all kids should be given every chance to win their battle against this disease, and she demonstrates her strong commitment to education and teamwork through her efforts to help create new treatments and get them into the hands of the families of children suffering from D.I.P.G.

"Dear Baseball,

Today is the day. The day you never dream about, the day you never imagine, the day you never expect to come... but deep down you know that one day it will arrive, Today is the day to close this chapter as a professional player, and this is not a moment to be sad, it is a moment to be grateful to God for allowing me to play this beautiful sport that changed my life.
Through baseball, I met wonderful people, people who contributed so much to my career and helped shape me into the person I am today.

To my parents and brothers, whom I love so much, thank you for everything, for being there during those difficult moments that we were able to overcome together.

To my wife, whom I love deeply, thank you for understanding me, for supporting me, and for giving me words of encouragement whenever I needed them.

To my children, Dad will no longer have to spend so much time away from home. You have no idea how happy I am to finally spend more time with you.

Born in Puerto Rico and raised in the Bronx, his journey reflects resilience, gratitude, and a commitment to using his voice for meaningful impact. His dedication to CRF is rooted in a shared mission to support families and help advance the fight against D.I.P.G.

At our 16th Annual Gala, Berlanga was honored with the service and dedication award for his upstanding service as a board member and dedication to our mission, both in and out of the ring. Berlanga truly cares about our warriors and has donated tens of thousands to support them and their families. In the ring, he always wears the CRF logo on his trunks, a testament to his commitment to raise awareness.
