SustainEd Farms creates and manages school gardens, teaching students about nutrition and sustainability through hands-on learning experiences.

All produce grown with students on our farms goes back to the community to create a more food-just Denver.

As we celebrate Farm to School month, we are so excited to see produce from school gardens we've had the joy of working on with students make it's way into their cafeterias. Last week, got it's first batch of produce for the cafeteria.

We always make it a point to teach students how they can eat different fruits and veggies from the garden that they may or may not try at home. But now, a few of our partner schools are going a step further and the students are eating the same produce they've helped to grow in their school lunches.

This is a huge accomplishment for SEF as we continue to engage with students in grow spaces and positively impact the community.

🎉 Time for the weekly recap!

💗 Last week, we saw 1,395 students and harvested 259.11 lbs of food! Students have been exploring the changing gardens as the season changes. They're seeing plants with fruit ready to harvest, as well as plants ready to come out of the gardens with the incoming cold weather.

🍁 With only a few more weeks of programming left until the spring, we're making sure we give students every opportunity to see new things in the garden.

🪩 It's almost time for our favorite party of the year!

💃 Secret Garden is coming up on November 7th and we're inviting everyone! This is our favorite time to share food, stories, music, dancing, and exciting silent auction prizes.

🥳 We look forward to Secret Garden every year as it wraps up our growing season, giving us a moment to celebrate all SEF has accomplished and how you, our community, helped us do so.

This free, all-ages event offers hands-on fresh herb workshops, art projects, garden bingo, and more! There will be light refreshments offered. Pop in when you can and take part in the fun!

🍄 Today, we'd love to shout out and their amazing work with us this growing season!

Cannolo Family Farms has been a significant partner to SustainEd Farms this year. They've donated mushroom substrate to many SustainEd garden sites, improving soil health and adding friendly fungi in garden beds across the city. Also, this fall, they came and taught the kids at and about mushroom basics, then had students plant mushroom blocks in their own school gardens.

🧑‍🌾 We have seen our first harvest of mushrooms and are excited for our middle schoolers to continue their citizen scientist observations and trying new foods! We've also been able to share our mushrooms with the community, offering a fun experience as some of them try a food they might not be as familiar with.

🍁 Join us for the DGSN and Inspire Fall Festival!

This event is open to all DGSN and Inspire students, staff, families, friends, and community members!

To usher in the changing of the seasons, we will be doing the final summer crop harvest. Throughout the season, this produce has been making it's way from the garden to with the student's and Mrs. Brandy's hard work. During the Harvest Festival, you have the opportunity to help in our final harvest to finish out the market season.

We will also be preparing the garden beds for winterizing, hanging out with the goats and chickens, and sipping delicious hot cocoa. We also encourage you to bring seeds to donate and swap with us!

🎉 Time for the weekly recap!

🍅 As we switch from early to late fall programming this week, last week, we saw 1,519 students and harvested 258.24 lbs of produce!

🍁 Overall, students enjoyed early fall programming, learning new recipes from other countries, and exploring a growing garden. Late fall brings a new recipe, a changing garden, and new opportunities to learn!
