The saying goes that “a scout is helpful” and Troop 1814 is no exception. Today, October 1st is the first day of Down Syndrome awareness month. Our assistant scout master Chris Edler is raising money for the Down Syndrome association of Maryland. Mr. Chris’s son was born in January 2025 and has Down Syndrome. Henry is now a year and a half old, doing great, and the entire family has benefited from the resources that the Down Syndrome Association of Maryland provides! If you have the means, we would greatly appreciate helping one of our scouters raise money for a worthy cause!

For some, it’s been more than a lifetime. For others, it seems like only yesterday. When emergencies arise, scouts will be there to help.

In the immortal words of Fred Rodgers “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’ To this day, especially in times of ‘disaster,’ I remember my mother’s words and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers – so many caring people in this world.”

Never forget, not in 2001, not in 2026, not ever.

We are a little over a week away from our annual spaghetti dinner! While you don’t NEED to RSVP, we certainly would appreciate if you did! Every dollar raised goes directly to scouts in our troop, so that we can continue to serve the community we call home! We look forward to seeing you there!
