That’s a big oyster!! 🦪

Sonde calibration and oyster sample collection day as part of our research with Colby College and partners to look at whether oysters are spawning in the Sheepscot and if so, how the timing of spawning may correlate with environmental parameters such as water temperature and chlorophyll concentrations (phytoplankton aka oyster food!)

We also noticed some baby clams settled on some of the oysters!

Thank you to everyone who came out for the Sheepscot River Knotweed Float! It was a great day for a float down the river and marvel in the beauty and biodiversity, while also getting a first hand look at the problematic knotweed. We are grateful for the community of river stewards and enthusiasts who are part of the Sheepscot Knotweed Project!

Successfully knocking out knotweed!! Our Stewardship Manager, Isobel Curtis, shared a photo update of knotweed management efforts at our Trout Brook Preserve. The 8 foot tall knotweed patch has been replaced by native blue vervain providing a pollinator buffet. Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers and the Sheepscot Knotweed Project who have supported this work!

As the Maine real estate market continues to be red hot, conservation easements are playing an increasingly important role in shaping the development of the Midcoast. As a realtor, your familiarity with conservation easements and their strategic advantages directly impacts your ability to close deals on conserved land. Between your realty business and our conservation network at Midcoast Conservancy, we’re all talking with the same folks about the same parcels of land, so let’s skill up and build a shared understanding from which to collaborate!

Midcoast Conservancy is developing a two-part workshop on conservation easements for real estate professionals, with the first part set to debut October 2nd, 2023 from 12 PM - 3 PM at Keller Williams Realty in Damariscotta, ME. We have been approved by the Maine Real Estate Commission as a continuing education course. This course will provide three hours towards the required annual professional development hours for realtor license holders in the State of Maine.

If you have questions or comments about this workshop, please reach out to [email protected].
