Members of Edgar VFW Memorial Post 10187 presented the Edgar Fire Department with an Appreciation Award Plaque & a monetary donation during their monthly meeting on March 3, 2026. The Post thanked the Fire Department for their 130 years of service to the Village of Edgar & the surrounding areas from 1895-2025. The Post also nominated the Fire department for the VFW Public Servant Award.

The VFW Department of Wisconsin has a new sponsorship program for supporting the Veterans Service Office called the Red, White, & Blue Program. This office helps Veterans submit claims for service connected injuries such as physical, PTSD, TBI, & other assistance needed by those veterans. There are four donation levels- Red, White, Blue, & Patriot. If there any local businesses or individuals that would like to donate, contact the Edgar VFW at 715-521-0046. In return, you will receive a wooden plaque from the VFW that serves as a Challenge Coin holder along with the VFW State Commanders coin. The donation will be split where the Service Office will receive 50% & the local post will get the other 50%.

Congratulations to three Edgar area residents that earned awards at the VFW District 7 Awards Banquet held at the Eagles Club in Marshfield on January 24, 2026. St. Johns Catholic School teacher June Wozney placed 1st in the 6-8th grade Teacher of the Year category. St Johns Catholic School teacher Brenda Werner placed 2nd in the K-5 Teacher of the Year category. Edgar High School Freshman Cecilia Mills placed 2nd in the VFW Voice of Democracy Essay contest.

Members of the Edgar VFW Post 10187 presented awards to 13 students at St. Johns School on January 16th for their participation in the VFW Patriots Pen Essay contest. The theme of the essay was "How Are You Showing Patriotism and Support for Our Country". Each student received a certificate & a 2 x 3 foot Wisconsin flag. The top three place winners also received a medal & monetary prize. Those three are: 3rd Place- Claire Braunel, 2nd Place - Jacob Hafferman, & 1st Place - AliMae Martin.
The post would like to that all the students that participated & all of the teachers at St. John's School for helping with the judging of the essays.

Members of Edgar VFW Post 10187 presented Edgar High School student Cecilia Mills with an award at their Post meeting on January 8th for her participation in the VFW Voice of Democracy essay contest. She placed 2nd out of 15 entries in the VFW District 7 competition. The theme of the essay was "How are you showing Patriotism and Support for Our Country?"

The Edgar VFW held their Christmas Party at the Country Aire north of Stratford on December 11th. Special guests were Jean Burke & Joe Burke. Jean hosts the Edgar VFW & Edgar American Legion at her place on Memorial Day as a rally point before & after the nine ceremonies that are performed in the Edgar area that day.
Post Commander Dale Dahlke presented Joe Burke an Appreciation Award plaque from the post for his 35 years of playing Taps on Memorial Day. Joe started doing this when he was in high school & we are thankful for all of his efforts.

The Edgar VFW Post 10187 & Edgar American Legion Post 393 teamed up for some "Great" Veterans Day programs at the Edgar Schools on Tuesday. There were 20 members between the two posts that attended,
The day started with a wonderful program put on by the students & staff at St. John Catholic School & then the Veterans did a program for the students with the theme of "Where in the World Did You Go?" followed by a question & answer session with the students.
At 1000, the Veterans visited the K-5 classrooms at the Edgar Elementary School. Each classroom had two to four veterans that told their stories & answered questions from the students.
The Veterans then had a delicious lunch that was homemade by the High School Family & Consumer Science Students(THANK YOU!)
The Posts then provided the Military Color Guard for the afternoon "Walk In Their Shoes" program in the High School auditorium featuring the story of the "Lost War" in Laos from 1961-1975 featuring T-28 pilot Pao Yang & Dr. Chia Youyee Vang.

Edgar VFW Post 10187 & District 7 Commander Dale Dahlke visited that VFW National Home near Eaton Rapids, MI along with over 30 other Wisconsin VFW & VFW Auxiliary members on October 25, 2025. It is an annual event & a Halloween party is held for the children & their families living at the National Home. The theme for the VFW members was the movie "Grease"

On Jan. 7, 1925, the VFW National Home was founded, helping to fulfill the VFW pledge to “honor the dead by helping the living.”
Since its founding, the VFW National Home has grown from an old frame farmhouse to a sprawling campus with playgrounds; park areas; and multiple buildings, including single-family homes, a community center and gymnasium, child care facility, guest lodge, chapel, and administrative offices.

Over the years, the National Home has evolved to meet the changing needs of America’s military and veterans’ families. Through it all, one thing has remained constant: the National Home’s commitment to honor our nation’s veterans and active-duty military by providing help and hope for their children and families.
