Fall Safety Reminder

Harvest is right around the corner. It is one of the busiest and most dangerous times of year in our county. Let’s all do our part to keep our neighbors, families, and farmers safe:

Grain Bin Safety
Never enter a grain bin alone.
Shut off and lock out augers before entering.
Use a harness and lifeline when possible. Grain can trap you in seconds.

Road & Intersection Safety
Expect more slow-moving equipment and heavy trucks. Be patient and give space.
Corn block views. Always look twice at intersections and field drives.
Always come to a full stop at stop signs and blind intersections.

Harvest Fire Prevention
Dry conditions and hot equipment increase the risk of fire.
Carry extinguishers on tractors, combines, and trucks.
Clean debris from engines regularly.

Farm & Family Safety
Keep kids and visitors away from bins, wagons, and running equipment.
Remind young drivers on ATVs/UTVs to wear helmets and use caution.

Shorter Days, Longer Hours
Many farmers work after dark. Make sure all equipment lights and flashers work.
Watch for tired drivers and reduce speed on rural roads at night.

Wildlife on the Move
Deer are more active in the fall, especially near fields and waterways.
Be alert at dawn and dusk.

Community Reminder
Harvest brings long hours, heavy traffic, and hidden hazards. Please stay alert, slow down, and look out for one another so everyone makes it home safe at the end of the day.

Stay safe, Clay County!
