The first time I walked up on the Swain Auditorium stage I was amazed that this beautiful building was empty and in need of rehabilitation. Swain was built in the mid to late 1920's (approaching 100 years designation).
I immediately met with some of the Edenton and Chowan officials to determine the desires of the community to revitalize this historic treasure. A recent Edenton community survey had been conducted that directly pointed to the need for a Performing Arts Center.
So we have now started the journey of revitalize the E.A. Swain Auditorium, to bring it back as a Center Performance Arts and preserve this historic building. This is a very large project, due to the condition of the facility. It will take state and federal grants as well as community support from both charitable and corporate philanthropic organizations.
