Fostering does not always mean a long-term commitment. Sometimes it’s a weekend, a backup plan, or a temporary place to land.

June is National Foster a Pet Month, and it’s a great reminder of how important foster homes are. Be on the lookout this month for our 'Foster Friday's' posts!

Fostering gives animals a safe, temporary place to land while they wait for adoption. It helps them decompress, learn home life, build confidence, and get matched with the right family.
At Paws of Promise, we support our fosters with supplies, vet care, guidance, and ongoing communication. You are not doing it alone, you are helping save a life with a team behind you.

Rescue isn’t always one-size-fits-all.
Sometimes it means helping a dog find a forever home.
Sometimes it means helping a community pet stay safe.
Sometimes it means helping fundraise in our community so that a pet can get care they need and stay in their home.
Sometimes it means answering questions, sharing resources, or helping families through hard moments.
At Paws of Promise, we believe animal welfare is strongest when rescue and community support work together.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of 2A TAC Air OPS Drone Services, Paws of Promise has another major raffle item available this year. This fundraiser helps support the rescue work we do every day, from vet care and supplies to transport, fostering, and giving dogs a safe place to land while they wait for their forever homes.
The raffle runs through June 19, with the drawing taking place on June 21st.

It's HOT this week! Summer looks and feels like its officially here, but please remember your pets may not enjoy the heat. Dogs don’t need to “push through” heat.

A few quick tips:
Keep walks shorter during hot parts of the day.
Bring water, even for quick outings.
Watch for excessive panting, lagging behind, drooling, or acting disoriented.

Pavement can heat up fast — if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for paws.
Summer fun is better when everyone gets home safely.

Vermont trails are a beautiful place to enjoy time with your dog, but safe and respectful trail behavior matters.
Our blog post covers hiking safety with dogs, including leash etiquette, reliable recall, respecting other dogs’ space, cleaning up after your pet, protecting wildlife, and knowing when your dog may need a break.
A friendly dog still needs boundaries, and not every dog or person on the trail wants to say hello. Good trail manners help keep hikes safer for everyone and help keep outdoor spaces dog-friendly.
