FREE PROGRAM - "Echo Utah - An Amazing History"
SATURDAY JULY 11 at 4:00pm

Join local history experts David Nicholas and Stuart Stanek as they discuss the “amazing” history of Echo Canyon. A geologic pathway through the Wasatch mountains, first used by migratory animals and indigenous peoples, predetermined the future of this beautiful canyon. Beginning with the early 1800’s, the fledgling country’s leaders decreed that it was our “Manifest Destiny” to control the continent from "sea to shining sea”. This “gap” would play a vital role in this quest.

Encompassing the period circa 1800 to present day - from the earliest white explorers to the construction of I-80 - David and Stuart will cover the growth, apex and decline of this “amazing” community. ADMISSION IS FREE!

FREE PROGRAM - “Pony Express & Communication on the Western Frontier”
SATURDAY JUNE 27 at 4:00pm

Join us this Saturday, June 27 at 4pm for a ride through the evolution of communication in the American West, with a focus on the Pony Express. This free talk will bring the story to life through the people who made it happen, including a few unforgettable characters along the trail. Local Pony Express “re-riders”, Mike Luers and Greg DuPratt, will also bring their horses for a mochila exchange demonstration. ADMISSION IS FREE!

Open Again for Summer Visitation!

Become a time traveler! Step into the past at the Historic Echo Church, one of Summit County’s oldest landmarks. Celebrate its 150th anniversary with a special exhibit tracing its humble beginnings in 1876 as a local protestant church through its unique role as a school, educating the town’s burgeoning community of children, to its rescue from demolition in the 1970s by dedicated local residents.

Visitors can also explore the America250 traveling exhibit “Becoming the United States: Colonial America and Declaration 1776,” featuring historic documents, images, maps, letters and first-hand accounts from our nation’s beginnings.

With the generous support of the Summit County RAP fund, the historic Echo Church is open every Saturday through Labor Day weekend from 11am to 4pm. Come ring the Church Bell and discover the oldest church in Summit County. Admission is FREE!

FREE EVENT: Don’t miss your chance to see the Union Pacific’s legendary Big Boy steam locomotive roll through Echo
THURSDAY MORNING APRIL 2

Departing Evanston at 9am, the train is expected to reach Echo between 10:30 and 11:15am, then on to Morgan at for a half-hour whistle stop at 11:45am.

To celebrate the occasion, the Echo Church will open its doors at 10am – a perfect opportunity to so stop by before or after the Big Boy passes and learn more about the town’s rich railroad heritage.

Introduced by the Union Pacific in 1941, the Big Boy steam
locomotive was designed to move heavy freight across the steep grades between Ogden and Evanston. Weighing in at roughly 1.2 million pounds, the massive articulated locomotives remain the largest steam engine ever built – a true icon of American railroading.
