PTSD Awareness

PTSD Awareness

PTSD and CPTSD keep your nervous system in overdrive.
That constant alertness is exhausting.

Rest and space aren’t luxuries. They’re necessities.

And sometimes it looks like:
Canceling plans.
Turning off your phone.
Lying in bed for a while.
Needing extra sleep.
Wanting silence.
Not having the energy to explain yourself to anyone.

That is not always avoidance.

Sometimes it’s regulation.

Sometimes the nervous system simply needs a break from performing, masking, explaining, and managing everyone else’s expectations long enough to feel safe again.

Space does not always mean:
“I don’t care.”

Sometimes it means:
“My nervous system is overloaded and I’m trying to come back to myself.”

People heal differently when they no longer have to earn rest.

You are enough.

New Medicaid work reporting requirement rules could make it harder for millions of people living with mental illness to keep the health care they rely on. NAMI is deeply concerned that these new rules create barriers that could leave too many people without coverage.

“When a person is struggling or faced with a crisis, we want people to be able to get the health care they need, not focus on filling out paperwork.” — NAMI CEO Daniel H. Gillison, Jr.
