Happy Friday everyone! Or should we say Hoppy Freedom Friday everyone?
The last of our most recent batch of baby bunnies have now been released back into the wild and releasing during this time of year is just wonderful for both us and for them. The flowers are blooming, there is lush clover everywhere and the freshly freed bunnies always look around like they've landed in paradise. Moments like this are exactly why we do what we do. Seeing them hop off into their futures healthy and happy truly make all this hard work worth it.
So today we encourage you all to take that extra minute to stop, smell the flowers and enjoy the sunshine. It's too easy to let our busy lives overshadow these small but worthwhile moments and you'd be amazed how much of a difference they really can make to brighten your day.
Thank you everyone and have a wonderful Friday!

Happy Sunday everyone! Well mother nature is up to her old tricks again. Usually, we have a short reprieve around this time of year with our squirrel babies. But this year we aren't getting so lucky...
Squirrels are supposed to have two fairly distinct seasons for having their litters through the spring and summer. They have one litter in mid May and another in mid July. This provides us a much needed period where all of our squirrels are outside and being released which opens up our nursery and gives us a very much needed break from the 24 hour round the clock feedings.
This season however, we had just gotten all of our spring kids outside into their pre-releease enclosures when we started getting calls about newborn squirrels being found and needing help. As you can imagine these storms and wind has done some major damage including completely blowing squirrel nests out of their trees, babies and all. We always try to reunite with mom but in this case, she never came back for these two and instead they were brought into us. Babies this young take a lot of time and round the clock care but we're happy to announce that they are doing well. I guess it's true what they say, no rest for the weary!
In the meantime we're loving watching our first batch of squirrels enjoy being outside in their pre-release enclosures. They have lots of branches to climb and tons of fresh air to help them get used to being outside before they get released. Seeing their excitement and watching them zoom around their enclosures is always a highlight of the day.
Thank you everyone and have a wonderful evening!

Happy Wild Wednesday everyone and what a wild day of weather it's been! Today we're happy to introduce to you all our batch of baby raccoon kits for the season!
These three were all sadly orphaned and needed our help. Two of them are siblings who were found after their mom had been hit on the road. The third was found alone after the mom had been unfortunately trapped and moved days earlier. We always try our hardest to reunite but in the cases where we know Mom can no longer be in the picture that certainly changes the conversation. This is why we say it's so important to attempt hazing techniques over trapping and relocating, and why if you can safely stop if you see an animal hit on the road to please do so. Knowing these tips can help quite literally save a life.
Thankfully these three do have another chance at life and they are all doing excellently in our care. Raccoons require a large level of care and will be with us for many months before they're ready for release. For now they are still in their sweet but rambunctious toddler stage and are just starting to experience some new foods like bananas (a popular favorite) and soft mash but they'll still be getting their bottles for a little longer as well. Once they're completely on solid food they start getting more wild and independent quickly so we enjoy these sweet moments while they last.
So! Without further ado, please help us give a warm welcome to our raccoon class of 2026!

Happy Thursday everyone! We have an exciting new face to introduce to you all! This little girl is a Short Tailed Weasel, also known as an Ermine in the winter when their coat turns white. This little girl came into us with her eyes just starting to open at a few weeks old. She was found when her nest was disturbed while turning soil for compost. Thankfully, the finder noticed her moving on top of one of the dirt piles and investigated further. She’s much too young to be on her own so she was brought into us!

We’re happy to report that after being with us for a few weeks now, she’s doing excellently in our care. She’s playful and growing like a little w**d. Fun fact about Short Tailed Weasels is that they have an absolutely voracious appetite and need to eat between one half to two thirds of their body weight every day in order to sustain their incredibly high metabolisms. To accomplish this, we weigh out her food and give her small but frequent portions throughout the day. Thankfully, she was already beginning to wean when she was brought in and is now completely on solid foods. Also because of this, she is growing more and more everyday and we love seeing her progress. In just a few more short weeks she’ll be ready to move outside into a pre-release enclosure where she’ll learn to hunt independently and prepare for returning back to the wild. In the meantime, we’re enjoying this up close view of her daily play and her speedy antics.
