Joining Our Neighbors Advancing Hope is a non-partisan organization using grassroots organizing to bring people in the Chippewa Valley together around social injustice and inequity to empower them to build a more just and healthy community for all. JONAH addresses root cause of social injustice by bringing people of diverse background together with people who have experienced injustice in the comm

unity - like poverty, racism, and oppression. We then build relationships with decision makers to educate them on what we know and work together for policy change - from internal to local, and state to national, levels. We work from our values and are an interfaith group - which includes people all all and no religious beliefs but despite our differences all agree in a compassionate, equitable community. build relationships with people who experience oppression and with people who make decisions for our community
3. train people in leadership tools in grassroots organizing

"Hope United Methodist Church joined JONAH as a member in 2019. A core group of individuals met with Paul Savides, from First Congregational UCC, who trained and answered questions about what our core group would do at Hope and what it meant to be a JONAH member church. After that, we met as a group and put forward some priorities. That first year, we had one-on-one discussions with most members of our church to listen to what our members felt were concerns and needs of our church. We also, as a group, felt we would focus on environmental topics in our church and provide some resources for individuals to talk about racism."

"When I first got the idea of doing a community forum, I found myself pushing away the idea. It felt too big. Too out of reach for a college student with very few ties to the Eau Claire community around her. I have always been passionate about the complexities of the criminal justice system and so that was an easy place to start. This passion is all I had to go off of for a while. I didn’t have connections to people who might be able to help, I was juggling many different tasks as well as a completely separate internship and it just felt out of my reach. This next part is what changed everything. Lynn got me in contact with a few different people who have had lived experience or professional experience with the system and I had to sit down and verbalize my idea. I had to explain, in detail, what I wanted to do to complete strangers who didn’t know who I was. And the most amazing thing happened; it started to grow."
