So much joy all around at the HMoob American Day Celebration!

Once again, thank you to everyone who attended and helped make Saturday’s celebration so special. The energy, love, and sense of community throughout the day were truly beautiful to witness.

Saturday’s celebration was more than just an event, it was an honoring of everything our community has been through and everything we continue to overcome together. It was a reflection of the resilience, sacrifices, and strength carried by generations of HMoob families who endured war, displacement, and the challenge of rebuilding life in new places while still holding tightly to culture, tradition, and community.

To gather openly in celebration, to share our food, music, language, stories, and joy with friends, families, neighbors, and supporters across the Chippewa Valley and beyond is something deeply meaningful. In many ways, it is a visible act of healing, pride, and collective joy.

We are our ancestors’ wildest dreams.

Thank you for continuing to grow, uplift, and celebrate this community with us.

Wrapping up another successful event tonight at the HMoob American Day Celebration!

At Power Up Eau Claire, we believe community is healing & that the very act of caring for one another is powerful, transformative work. In a world that often teaches disconnection, choosing to show up for one another with compassion, dignity, and love is an act of resistance and hope.

We believe joy is activism in action. Gathering together, celebrating culture, sharing food, laughing, dancing, and creating spaces where people feel seen and valued are not small things, they are how we reclaim our humanity, strengthen our communities, and imagine a more connected and liberated future together.

Thank you to all EVERY community member who attended, to our vendors, our youth entrepreneurs, performers, volunteers (& volun-told), community partners, and our staff & board members.

A very special shoutout to Chippewa Valley Indivisible for their assistance in tonight's event.

Thank you to our friends at the Eau Claire Transit and the Eau Claire Fire Department for being at the event and showcasing public services our community offers to families.

"HMoob [American] Day Celebration is more than just a celebration. It is a beautiful showcase of our community coming together in public to celebrate and honor us, our history, traditions, and culture, and be in community with friends and neighbors-- AND to taking up space and being seen and visible because Eau Claire is home.

“With a history of genocide and conflict — staying quiet means staying safe,” said Thao.

But now, she says that it is more important to be visible — as she says, “to take up space” — leading to the formation of Power Up Eau Claire."

May 14th marks the fall of Long Cheng in 1975, a moment that changed everything for our community.

It forced thousands of Hmong families into exile, carrying with them stories of sacrifice, survival, loss, and resilience. Many risked their lives alongside American forces during the Secret War, leading to the displacement, separation, and the difficult journey of rebuilding home in unfamiliar places.

Today, we honor our elders, our history, and the strength that continues to shape who we are. We honor those who endured unimaginable hardship so future generations could have opportunities, safety, and hope.

As we reflect on this history, we are reminded why spaces that celebrate HMoob identity, culture, and community matter deeply. Our stories deserve to be remembered. Our elders deserve to be honored. And our youth deserve to grow up with pride in who they are and where they come from.

We also reflect on the importance of protecting and honoring the humanity of all people. The harmful comments we sometimes see online are reminders that there is still work to do in building understanding, compassion, and respect across communities.

Our history has always taught us resilience. We come from people who survived unimaginable hardship and still chose to rebuild, care for one another, and create community wherever we went. That legacy continues to live on through all of us.

🚩Join us this Saturday for this year's HMoob American Day Celebration at the Farmers Market Pavilion at Phoenix Park starting at 5pm.
