What great teamwork at Sleep in Heavenly Peace. Bed delivery was fun, but now we are gearing up to build 20 more beds on Saturday, May 16, at one of the pole sheds at the Eau Claire County Fairgrounds near Metropolis. We are looking for 35 volunteers from our club, Clear Water Kiwanis- Eau Claire, Indianhead - Eau Claire Kiwanis, and the community.

Please let us know if you are interested in helping that morning between 8 am and Noon. Our club secretary, Becky Mattson, will follow up on any questions you may have. She can send you a link to volunteer. The Kiwanis Club of Eau Claire is covering the $6000 cost of this 20-bed build, but we still need volunteers. It might be a great way to get to know some of our Kiwanis members in town and the Kiwanis Family, which includes Key Club members at Memorial High School. It costs about $300 per bed. If you would like to sponsor an additional bed or more, just let us know. Each additional $300 donation will cover the cost of another bed and bedding.

Let's make a difference together today. One child, one community at a time.

Delivering beds on Saturday, April 11, with Sleep in Heavenly Peace delivery leads was a heart-warming experience. A special shout-out to Mac & Norma Johnston, Matthew LeGrave and his four family members, and Becky Mattson for representing our club along with the other volunteers. Our $2500 donation helped pay for bedding for 20+ beds that day.

Reflecting on the importance of our club members today as this photo came up as a memory in our club feed. We miss Dave Weiss, a 65-year Legion of Honor club member who passed away earlier this year at age 95. He was also a recipient of our club’s Terry Sheridan Award bestowed on members who embody the spirit of Kiwanis.

Kiwanis focuses on “Serving the Children of the World, one child, one community at a time”. If you are interested in learning more, consider joining us as a guest at our next Kiwanis meeting on Thursday, April 16 at noon at the Eau Claire Golf and Country Club. What a great time had by all at the Children’s Museum of Eau Claire during our Kiwanis ‘n Cops ‘n Kids event on Saturday. Officer Ben from the Eau Claire Police Department read to kids then distributed free Scholastic Books to them.

On the stage kids enjoyed sing-a-long songs led by Kiwanis Club of Eau Claire past president and music therapist, Sheila Wall and danced to polkas played by the Wisconsin-Upper Michigan Kiwanis Governor-elect Becky Mattson on the accordion.

In the “Makery” kids could make masks, butterflies, or do scratch art. They were assisted by WIUM Division 12 Lt. Governor, Clear Water Kiwanis member La Vone Sneen.

Additional help came from other Kiwanis Club of Eau Claire, Memorial High School Key Club, and the Eau Claire K-Kids Club members. A special shout out to Cori, Gloria, Johnny, Lila, Isabelle, Reyna, and Nadya for their assistance. Thank you to the Museum for hosting this event. Our next Kiwanis ‘n Cops ‘n kids event at the Museum will be during Countdown to Kindergarten in August.

Thanks to Dennis Johnson and Barry Rhodes for overseeing all of our MHS Key Club members wrapping Christmas presents for the L.E. Lhillips Career Developmemt Center employees. Gregg Mizerk was a great host and our volunteers enjoyed pizza afterwards. Thursday morning they are being treating with brownies at their Key Clhb meeting. Treats are well deserved.

2025-2026 Wisconsin-Upper Michigan Governor-elect Becky Mattson had a great time in Indianapolis at Governor-elect training despite a flat tire on day two and An appendectomy the day after she arrived back home. Her four new tires helped her traverse the poor wintry weather route despite the discomfort she felt.

Once recovered she will be excited to get back to work for the district and Kiwanis International.
