Senior Citizens Activities Network is a non-profit organization and has been Keeping Seniors Active, Healthy, and Connected Since 1988. SCAN is located in the eastern portion of Monmouth County, NJ. Ocean and Monmouth Counties are home to the second largest number of senior citizens in the USA -- second only to Florida. Our membership reflects the active lifestyle, vibrancy, and social networking strength of our organization. We know that education, community resources, and technology can be effectively combined to create an enriched, engaging social environment where older adults will continue to grow intellectually as well as physically and emotionally. Our programs create the opportunity for adults aged 55+ to thrive and help them sustain their independence, health, and happiness. At our Monmouth Mall Hub, SCAN offers three 13-week semesters of educational and inspiring classes that include art, literature, technology, yoga, tai chi, music, TV production, and much more. The Mall location also features special events and workshops, as well as a SHIP counselor who provides Medicare consultations. SCAN in the Community

⛳ We’re kicking off our SCAN Golf Classic sponsor thank-you series with someone who has consistently championed our mission: Carol Stillwell, President and CEO of Stillwell-Hansen Inc.

For each of the past three years, Stillwell-Hansen has served as our Golf Classic Event Sponsor under Carol’s leadership. She has also supported our annual luncheon as our Signature Sponsor, helping SCAN bring people together through learning, wellness and friendship.

Carol is a staunch advocate for SCAN, and her generosity extends to countless nonprofit organizations throughout Monmouth and Ocean counties. Her commitment to the community makes a lasting difference in so many lives.

Carol, thank you for believing in SCAN and the people we serve. We are grateful for your continued partnership, your kindness and the example you set through your leadership. 💙

⛳ Our Golf Classic sponsor spotlight continues with a big thank-you to Manasquan Bank!

Since our first outing five years ago, Manasquan Bank has been part of the SCAN Golf Classic—bringing a team to the course, hosting a table at our awards reception and supporting the event as a Dinner Sponsor and this year’s Lunch Sponsor.

And they clearly bring their golf game, too—they seem to take home the winning trophy nearly every year! 🏆

Their generosity extends well beyond the golf course. Through grants and event sponsorships over the years, Manasquan Bank has helped SCAN provide opportunities for older adults to learn, stay active and build friendships.

Thank you, Manasquan Bank, for five years of partnership and for your continued investment in our community. We’re grateful to have you on our team! 💙

A vascular surgeon deals with the arteries and veins in our bodies, excluding the heart and brain. Our guest today is Dr. Alan Dietzek, Chair of the Department of Vascular Surgery at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune Hackensack Meridian Health. He shared several of the reasons you might need to consult a vascular surgeon. Reasons include serious problems with arteries and more common challenges like varicose veins. We also learned that walking 30 minutes a day is one of the most effective lifestyle change you can make to overcome pains in your calf and thighs.

⛳️ What a day for SCAN!

Our 2026 SCAN Golf Classic brought together friends, supporters, sponsors and community partners for a beautiful day of golf, great food, plenty of laughs—and most importantly, support for SCAN and the older adults we serve throughout Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

From the first tee to the final putt, and from lunch and cocktails to our auction and awards, the day was filled with the kind of friendship and connection that makes the SCAN community so special.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who made the day possible—our golfers, volunteers, Golf Committee, Board of Trustees, auction donors and the many businesses and organizations that continue to stand behind SCAN.

A very special thank you to our sponsors, including Stillwell-Hansen, Manasquan Bank, Levine Furman & Rubin, Jersey Shore Financial Advisors, Garden State Trust Company, Imperial Healthcare, Monarch Communities and all of the organizations and individuals whose generosity helped make this year’s outing such a success.

And thank you to everyone who joined us. Events like this are about much more than golf. They help SCAN continue creating opportunities for older adults to move, create, learn and connect—and remind us just how fortunate we are to have such an extraordinary community supporting our mission.

Great golf. Great people. Great cause. A great day for SCAN. 💙

We can’t wait to do it again next year!

September is National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. We had the good fortune to chat with Dr. Mitchell Weiss, a radiation oncologist from Monmouth Medical Center . He described the latest advances in prostate cancer treatments. Of course, the best advice from Dr. Weiss is to get your annual screening which is a blood test. Early detection of all types of cancer creates the most successful outcome. The Leon Hess Cancer Center at Monmouth Medical Center continues to break barriers in cancer care through its state-of-the-art Institute for Advanced Radiation Oncology.
