Nature lovers coming together to create a Georgia native pollinator/ butterfly larval host and nectar-based habitat for the public to enjoy and learn how to incorporate the same plants into their own gardens. Volunteers from all areas of life experience, work together with the common bond of recognizing the need of individual efforts to ensure that pollinators of all types are protected. This a vo
lunteer project, anyone who is interested in actively participating in maintaining this area is more than welcome to join us! Honey BeeZ: Queen Tallulah, of the Etowah Hive, is in the far right corner inside the Bee Corral. The Hotel California with Queen Janice Joplin is the hive on the left. The fence around it is the safety zone. Watching quietly from outside the corral should keep you safe from bee activity. A free library, built by the Putnam Elementary School is maintained by volunteers...please feel free to take any books, you are welcome to donate any books, please keep in mind that these are for children and we prefer informative books on nature only. We have a Hummingbird Team that sign up to clean and fill 4 on site hummingbird feeders once a season, or once a month as they like, please send an email if you would like to join that team. Picnic tables for your lunch, a pond with bass to feed, the gazebo to sit & watch wings and a Boardwalk to race across! This area is NOT intended to be a childrens playground, please do not allow anyone with your group to throw anything into the pond, throw trash, rocks or bricks anywhere. A garden is created mainly to please the viewers eye, a habitat supplies all the critical components for a species to flourish and reproduce. This space is referred to as a habitat as it provides all needed for pollinators to reproduce instead of simply pleasing human visitors. Helping spread the wings in our community and hope to inspire others to do so in their own gardens and communities. This project was awarded Habitat of the Year 2021, by Monarchs Across Georgia & the Environmental Education Alliance of Georgia. It is a registered Monarch Way Station since 2015, #9045, certified by the Xerces Society, listed on the Rosalynn Carter Butterfly Trail, certified by the North American Butterfly Assoc. and about every eco conscious org for the last few years. Volunteers have established & maintain the critical native larval host plants for over 70 native species of pollinators in this area, including many on the brink of extinction. Those include Monarchs and Atala butterflies. located at 617 N Jefferson Ave., Eatonton, GA
