Dowie May 3, 2011 Jean Elizabeth Butera Dowie, formerly of Mexico, NY, died May 3, 2011, with her family by her side at St. Jean graduated from Oswego High School and retired in 1996 from the Mexico School District as Cook Manager at the Mexico Middle School. She will be remembered for her love of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, shopping, puzzles and being with family. In 1955
, she married the love of her life, Sherman D. They lived on Utica Street, Oswego, for a short time prior to building their home on 104B, Mexico. In 1996, at the age of 60, she go her driver's license. In 2009, she moved to the Ladies Home in Oswego, NY. She made so many new friends and thoroughly enjoyed living there. She is predeceased by her husband, Sherman, 1996 and her parents, August and Sara Butera. Survived by her daughter, Jean (Fred) Herse of New Haven, sons John Dowie of Oswego and Sherm Dowie of Mexico; grandchildren Zachary Herse, Hershey, PA, Christopher Herse, Syracuse, Patrick Herse, New Haven, Sara Dowie, GA, and Amanda Dowie, Mexico; also her brother, Joseph Butera and wife, Ann, of Middlesex, NJ; nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Ann Mother of Mary Catholic Church, Main St., Mexico, NY. Burial will be in Mexico Village Cemetery. Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Harter Funeral Home, 9 Washington Ave., Mexico, NY.
