Kudos to the wonderful Orcas artists leading our community luminaria workshops! It is a wonderful collaboration of 12 local makers sharing these fun and beautiful projects. Thanks to Stephanie, Jasmine, Kandis, Penny, Maria, Taja, Lydia, Parker, Issa, Hannah, Tabitha and Brook.

Luminaria Workshops this Weekend - a few spaces are open.

Many happy hands have been enjoying making lanterns at recent luminary classes and workshops. We appreciate the great turn out – and the joy this is bringing over 150 folks who have signed up.
Saturday the 14th is the final workshop day and we are meeting at the School Cafeteria.

There will be drop in, ‘while-supplies-last’ sessions with Brook Meinhart using upcycled materials for fun and colorful lanterns. Great class for families. Drop ins are 10-1, completing by 2pm. Estimated time per project is an hour.

The beginner paper lantern classes on Saturday are taught by Parker Pavitt and are 2 hr sessions that require bringing a 2 liter plastic pop/water bottle. Those classes have had a few cancellations so come see if room. Start times are 10am and noon.

The more advanced Star workshop is 4 hrs, 11-3, and is taught by Jasmine Townsend, with support from Kandis Susol and Penny Sharp Sky. If you are interested in this workshop, text 360-842-3573 by 10:30 on Saturday and we’ll let you know at 11am if there is space.

San Juan County just became the first rural county in WA to adopt a Cultural Access Initiative!

Great News for San Juan County Arts, Cultural, Heritage and Science access! County Council has passed the new Cultural Access Initiative that will invest 1/10th of 1% of sales tax in valuable programs that enrich all ages of our community, across all islands in the San Juans.

This initiative creates a fund of aprox. $800,000 a year for classroom, community, and organization services - and will serve as a base fund that attracts matching funding and services. With visitor purchases providing a large portion of this funding, it is an excellent resource to enrich our local community, at minimal local cost.

Thank you to Manny at INSPIRE WA for helping develop this at the state wide level, and cheers to San Juan as the FIRST rural county in WA to bring it to life!

Special thanks to Councilmembers Wolf and Minney for their support, and to the dozens of organizations who have championed this initiative.

This year during the Winter Artisans Market in Eastsound Village, a special live Silent Auction is being held during the Night Market. The Auction takes place at Odd Fellows Hall on Friday, December 6th.
We are welcoming donations in support of youth programs at the Funhouse, Kaleidoscope and The Forest School, and Orcas Wonder Camp to help increase youth access to the arts and nature.

Winter Artisans Vendor Applications Invited. Due Oct 18.

The annual Winter Market at Odd Fellows Hall in Eastsound invites applications from artists and artisans for the Dec 6-8 gathering of island creatives and community supporters.

It is going to be a very festive weekend in Eastsound village and the beloved Market shares unique hand-crafted wares and wonders starting with a free Friday Night Market with dining options. Then Saturday and Sunday the Hall hums with villagers and guests selecting gifts, enjoying hot cider with friends, and taking home delicious island treats.
