Last Saturday, our Oystercorps crew was out at the Carrabelle Riverfront Festival, working with the community to build VOGs (Vertical Oyster Gardens) and sharing about the different types of oyster reefs we help create. It was a great day of hands-on learning and connecting with people about protecting our local waters.

Big thank you to everyone who stopped by and got involved—we appreciate the support!

Our Pensacola crew has had a blast assisting in the deployment of Oyster Reef Balls for their Living Shoreline Assistance Program!

This NOAA funded project protects shorelines while restoring natural coastal systems and making it simpler for the community to participate in these solutions.

Please celebrate with FloridaCorps!! We have a list of accomplishments for the St. Andrew Bay crews and staff.

We spent a great day celebrating, we got the keys to the new office, had lunch together, and completed a living shoreline site assessment in Parker!

1) Our Regional Director, Jay York has secured full-time employment with Bay County. He will begin with the Fire Department in Surf Rescue. He plans to complete his EMT training and grow with the County. Jay started with us as a GulfCorps crew member and helped us build both St. Andrew Bay and Choctaw crews. He has been a great leader and role model for his crew members. We will miss Jay, but he will be working with one of our Bay County partners!!

2) Alexis ( Lexi) Powell will take over Jay's role as Regional Director. Alexis started with us as a GulfCorps Member three seasons ago. Alexis has done a great job as the Community Education and Outreach Coordinator, building relationships across Bay County.

3) Maurice Turner began his time with us as an OysterCorps member and last season. He moved forward to serve as the Crew Leader for the GulfCorps crew. Maurice will become the Community Education and Outreach Coordinator for the St. Andrew Bay Watershed.

4) And drum roll, please! Today we received the deed of purchase for the crew's new office and work yard at 110 West 12th Street in Panama City. It will be awesome for the crews to have a permanent home with room to train and build coastal restoration materials!

5) We finished the day planning our first living shoreline with staff from the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve!

We are so happy for FloridaCorps-St. Andrew Bay!!! Looking forward to having an open house in about a year!!!
