Nate's Eagle Project - Trail Bridge behind Old Pond

I pulled together a small group of my friends to finish off the removal of the stone bridges which was causing the drainage bottleneck. Project is almost done. We have a little more debris to clear in the drainage area, some widening of the channel, and some work to discourage use of the old trail. I am also working with the Bay Circuit Trail to get new blazes for this segment of trail.

My dad and I went out to the site yesterday to test how feasible it was to remove the stone bridge which is causing the trail to be washed out. Removal went better than expected and we removed all but two of the stones. The two remaining are the biggest but I feel we can do this at the next work day. After this we will work on the washed out trail to try and rehab it a bit.

The new bridge is fully in place! We've partially blocked the old trail and will be taking a break for a few weeks. Next part of the project is removing the stones that form a bridge. That old bridge is blocking the flow of water to Beaver Brook.

With a little help, we put the beams in place. attached the bridge to the footers and finsihed treads. Tomorrow we will install the ramp to make the step-up to the bridge easier.

Rented a truck to get my wood which worked out well. Brought it back to my house and got it cut with the help of my dad and then brought it out to the site. We came back later and fabricated to two stringers that will be the primary support for the 20-foot bridge.

On the weekend of 7/12, we flagged and then cut the re-routed trail. This re-route keeps the trail on higher ground and avoids the washed out area. We haven't built the bridge yet; but we places natural stones from the area in place to act as footers for the bridge.
