🚒 Remembering Former Fire Chief Kenny Heintzelman

The Kickapoo Township Fire Department extends our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Former Fire Chief Kenny Heintzelman.

Kenny was an original charter member of the Kickapoo Township Fire Department, joining when the department was established in 1982. He became Fire Chief in 1984 and served as Chief until his retirement in 2006.

Kenny led the department for many years, helping shape the future of the Kickapoo Township Fire Department and influencing generations of firefighters who followed. His leadership, dedication, and commitment to the community helped establish the foundation that our department continues to build upon today.

We are grateful for Kenny's years of service and for the lasting impact he had on the department, the community, and the many firefighters he helped guide.

Rest easy, Chief Kenny. Your service and legacy will not be forgotten. 🚒

This morning at approximately 6:20 AM, the Kickapoo Township Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire involving a detached garage that was fully engulfed upon arrival.

Firefighters responded quickly, and with the assistance of automatic aid and mutual aid departments, the fire was brought under control and extinguished safely. Unfortunately, the structure and its contents were a complete loss.

Kickapoo Township Fire Department would like to thank Easton Township Fire Department, Lansing Fire Department, Fort Leavenworth Fire Department, and High Prairie Fire Department for their response and assistance. We would also like to thank the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office and Leavenworth County EMS for their support on scene.

The work completed by all responding personnel in a safe and timely manner demonstrated how teamwork and interagency cooperation go a long way in providing fire protection and emergency services to our communities.

Our volunteers have been very busy the last couple weeks and plan to continue this weekend. We ask everyone to not conduct burns during this county wide burn ban. Remember everytime our volunteers respond they are giving up their time with their families to help their community.

The Rangeland Fire Index will be in the extreme Category through Monday. No burn permits will be issued. Burning of any type is highly discouraged.

Thank you to everyone who purchased raffle tickets. Your support helps fund the continuation of the Mark Lingenfelser Scholarship, allowing us to support and encourage the next generation through education.

📢 The scholarship application period is now open! If you or someone you know is a senior at Pleasant Ridge High School and is interested in going into public service (Fire, EMS, or Law Enforcement) or volunteering with one of the local fire departments, please contact Mrs. Henning at Pleasant Ridge High School for more information.
