We are so proud of our competitors who last weekend traveled to Westminster University and took first place in the state tournament for the fourth consecutive year!

Lafayette took eleven students, all of whom placed in at least one event!
Here are there full awards:
Kelly Mwaamba ‘22 won individual sweepstakes in addition to 1st in After Dinner Speaking, 1st in Duo, 2nd in Dramatic Interpretation, 3rd in Persuasive speaking, 3rd in Poetry, and 5th in Prose

Ben Herman and Josh Hale took 2nd in Parliamentary Debate
Josh Hale was also the 2nd Extemporaneous Speaker

Ceci Montufar and Baris Yazici were semi-finalists in Parliamentary debate

Danny Demelfi was 1st in Duo, 1st in POI, and 3rd in Dramatic Interpretation

Shirley Liu took 1st in informative speaking, 1st in persuasive speaking, and 2nd in Rhetorical Criticism

Michael Sun placed 2nd in informative speaking, 5th in Extemporaneous Speaking, and 6th in Prose

Ronnie Ward took 3rd in Prose and 4th in Poetry

Image Patterson took 1st in Poetry and 1st in Dramatic interpretation

James Hixenbaugh was the 2nd place speaker in Impromptu speaking

The team had a wonderful end to the semester!

For example, last weekend the speech team competed in the Long Island Swing — also known as the Off-Broadway Swing. This was the first in-person tournament for many of our competitors!

Meanwhile, the debate team competed in the Fall Finale hosted jointly by Lafayette College and the University of Nebrask-Lincoln.

Here are the results:

SPEECH DAY 1
Overall, the team scored second place.

Kelly - Tournament champion, 1st POE, 1st DUO, 1st PRO, 2nd DUO, 2nd ADS, 4th DI

Jordan - 2nd DUO, 2nd PRO

Shirley - 2nd CA, 4th INF

Danny - 1st DUO, 6th DI

DEBATE
Overall, the team took second place!

Last weekend, three members of the speech team travelled to Bradley in Peoria, IL to compete in the Norton — one of the most competitive tournaments we compete in during the fall semester!

Kelly: 6th in DI, 6th in DUO, 6th in POE, 5th in PRO, semi-finals PERS
