Please join us in congratulating Gaia and Andy on their award!
We are excited to announce that Andy Laties and Gaia Abraxas, co-owners of Book and Puppet Company, have received the American Association of University Women's Gateway to Equity Award from the Easton Branch! The award was presented to them during a recent presentation at Book and Puppet Company.
The AAUW Gateway to Equity Award honors an individual, a group or an organization that has shown by action and philosophy the promotion of the AAUW mission of equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research. It celebrates International Women's Day, which is held annually on March 8.
Andy and Gaia received this award because they organize art shows, poetry readings, writing sessions, and free musical events. They support high-quality early childhood education and welcomed the AAUW of Easton Branch to host a community screening of the film Make a Circle. The film follows a group of childcare providers who are determined to change how society values the education of its youngest citizens.
They are both a force for greater literacy in our area, founding the Easton Book Festival, an annual festival that facilitates bringing children’s book authors into the Easton Area School District’s seven elementary schools where each student receives a free copy of the author’s book.
AAUW branches across Pennsylvania held similar presentations to bring awareness to the work of those who promote the AAUW mission. AAUW, with its nationwide network of more than 150,000 members and donors, 1,000 branches, and 500 college/university institutional partners, has been a leading advocate of equity for women and girls since 1881.
