A family friendly, alcohol and drug free New Year's Eve Celebration of the Arts The crab was constructed in November, 2004.

About the First Night Talbot Crab Drop

The Crab Drop featured at First Night Talbot was the idea of Rich Hood, inspired by his viewing of the Bermuda Onion Drop. The first Crab Drop brought in the 2005 year. Suzanne made the crab with the help of several helpers: Caine Knopp (chicken wire construction over steel armature), Nickey Robinson and Mary Marth (papier mache). Suzanne designed, textured

, completed and painted the crab with acrylic paint. Bob Sealy of Sunrise Forge in Royal Oak made the iron rod year numbers and has continued to do so every year since 2004. Rich Hood designed the crab dropping mechanism and Mid-Atlantic Waste Systems employees assist each year with setting up and dismantling the Crab. Lance Hood has been supervising the drops for the last several years. The crab is 8 feet from claw to claw across and drops 20 feet. First Night offers two crab drop celebrations each year. One at 9pm - Midnight in the Mid-Atlantic, and a traditional countdown at midnight. Several years ago the crab drop was discovered by national media. It has been featured in articles in the Washington Post, Pittsburg Times and this year was it was mentioned on the front page of the Wall Street Journal. Stories and pictures have been on msn.com and tripadvisor, plus it has been mentioned in Spirit Magazine and on Fox News.

The event at the Waterfowl building will begin at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday December 31st.

A 360 Photo booth will be available, Bingo, and a DJ.

The first crab drop will be at 9:00 p.m. and the second crab drop will be at midnight.

There will be two food vendors that will be there with food for sale. They are as follows:
Chubb - BBQ Ribs, Chicken and Hot Sausage.
Frase's - Pulled Beef & Pork, French Fries, Chicken Nuggets and Hotdogs.

Other vendors will be selling the products as listed:
Gina Caldwell - Jewelry
Keasha Foster - Hats, Scarves, Sunglasses, Body Oils & Jewelry
Michelle Hammond - Soap, Books, & Candles
Shirl Jenkins - Homemade Baked Goods
Latonya Richardson - Blankets, Mugs/Tumblers, Keychains & Wreaths
Kaitlin Skinner - Soap, Books, Candles, Chips & Water.

The event at the Avalon will begin at 10:00pm. Each group will sing for approximately 15 minutes. The groups that will be singing at the Avalon are as follows:

EBC
A New Year's Eve Video will be played

Here is the schedule for First Night Talbot 2025 , December 31, 2024
6-9pm will feature activities at the Waterfowl Building with a 9pm Crab Drop at the Waterfowl Building 40 S Harrison St.
From 10pm until midnight there will be performances at the Avalon Theatre,
40 E Dover St by:
Covenant Choir of Easton,
UBC Ensemble,
EBC for Christ,
Lane Morgan (soloist),
Quinton George,
followed by an inspirational message from Rev Demetrius A Price.
