Lehigh Valley Pennsylvania Promise Walk for Preeclampsia

Lehigh Valley Pennsylvania Promise Walk for Preeclampsia We envision a world where preeclampsia no longer threatens the lives of moms and babies.

We are dedicated to raising awareness and promoting research, education and healthy outcomes for those affected. Too few know the reality and impact of preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome; life-threatening disorders of pregnancy that affect both the mother and the unborn baby. Yet preeclampsia is not rare: It happens in as many as one in 12 pregnancies. We work to identify a cause and cure, and to provide education & support for those affected.

Women who have had preeclampsia have three to four times the risk of high blood pressure and double the risk for heart disease and stroke. While it is still unknown whether the risk is caused by preeclampsia or if the woman was already predisposed, these risks first emerge in the years following a complicated pregnancy. Although this may seem daunting, ample research shows that there are many ways for women to protect their heart health and that of their families!

It's important to know that delivery is not the cure for preeclampsia. Any woman can develop preeclampsia after her baby is born, whether she experienced high blood pressure during her pregnancy or not. Moms need to continue to monitor their health after delivery.
