Nurture Nature Center at 518 Northampton Street, Easton, PA, uses science and art to inspire dialogue

Our large, three-story facility, built in 1914 by the International Order of the Odd Fellows as the "Strand Theatre," was one of Easton's first theaters, and it's first talkie movie theater. The building has been renovated in phases during the past several years, and retains original gorgeous interior and exterior features, including ornate plaster molding and rich woodwork. The third floor is ded

icated to community programming and exhibit space, and includes a spectacular meeting room available to the community for non-profit programs and private rentals.

🎨🌱 Our 2026 Kids Create & Learn kicked off on Tuesday where NNC art educator Ashley Foster taught about the importance of soil health, what lives in our soils, and then created artwork made out of local harvested soils (with a special pop of color). We learned about this intriguing art method by collaborating with Kirsten Kurtz, soil scientist and artist from Cornell University, who hosted a soil workshop at our Youth Climate Summit this past spring.

🌟 Thank you to the families who joined us, we had a blast!

📅 Our next class is Tuesday June 14, 12:30-2:30pm where we explore plant life with the simple seed and then we’ll use a variety of seeds to create beautiful mosaic artwork.

🔆 NNC’s science educator, Jeff Mucklin, shed light on bioluminescence during Saturday’s Science Connections - Living Light program at the Easton Area Public Library and District Center. His deconstructed glow stick experiment wowed the crowd! 🤩

🎤 Last week NNC attended the Association of State Floodplain Managers Annual Conference in Milwaukee, WI. Patrick Painter presented our social science research about precipitation related forecast products (working with the NWS Weather Prediction Center) and flood inundation mapping (from the National Water Model/National Water Center). ☀🌙 It was a busy weekend for the NNC educator team! Friday we participated in Governor Wolf Elementary’s Summer Kickoff event (thank you Governor Wolf PTA, Inc.!) and Saturday we had the first star party of the year. We had a wonderful evening sharing great views of the moon, planets, and stars with over 125 attendees!
