Nurture Nature Center at 518 Northampton Street, Easton, PA, uses science and art to inspire dialogue

Our large, three-story facility, built in 1914 by the International Order of the Odd Fellows as the "Strand Theatre," was one of Easton's first theaters, and it's first talkie movie theater. The building has been renovated in phases during the past several years, and retains original gorgeous interior and exterior features, including ornate plaster molding and rich woodwork. The third floor is ded

icated to community programming and exhibit space, and includes a spectacular meeting room available to the community for non-profit programs and private rentals.

🌟 The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope successfully launched this past Sunday August 30th, from the Kennedy Space Center. NNC Educators Jeff Mucklin and Henry Skirbst review the launch and what exciting things we have to look forward to from the data and images collected by the telescope.

🌟🌕🍂 Venus blazes at its brightest for all of 2026 this month. The Harvest Moon rises at sunset on September 26. And fall arrives on the 22nd — with longer nights and the Andromeda Galaxy climbing into view. September's sky is worth stepping outside for.

🌎✈️ This week, NNC’s Executive Director Rachel Hogan Carr is attending the annual meeting of the Scientific Steering Committee of the World Weather Research Programme of the World Meteorological Organization, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She presented the work of the InPRHA project, which she co-chairs. InPRHa is an international group of researchers looking to advance global early warnings through the integration of precipitation, meteorology and social science. NNC’s research work on flood forecasts helps inform InPRHA’s activities and was presented at the meeting.

🚀 Here at the Nurture Nature Center we are counting down to August 30th when the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope will launch from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket. Each week we will share more about the mission, its purpose and the exciting new discoveries it may reveal. In this week’s episode, we discuss how the telescope will help us study dark energy, dark matter, and planets around other stars. The Nancy Grace Roman Telescope will have a field of view at least 100 times larger than Hubble's, with Hubble-level sharpness, leading to amazing discoveries.

🌎 This week NNC is participating in the 2026 virtual workshop for the Science On a Sphere Users Collaborative Network. We are inspired by the other centers around the world that do programming with the SOS. NNC’s Science Director presented on our Building Insights through Observation project and shared about our collaboration with the Mosaic Youth Chorus during a panel on Cool & Unusual Partnerships. We can’t wait to share our SOS once we open again!
