During times of extreme weather Talbot County Animal Control encourages pet owners to bring pets indoors. Talbot Humane will give crates free of charge to any pet owner willing to bring their pets indoors.
Dogs left outside unattended must be provided the following:
· Fresh clean drinkable water
· Dog house of appropriate size based upon the size of the dog
· Dog houses should be oriented away from the prevailing wind. Door flaps/doors should be affixed to dog houses. If the dog removes these the doghouse must be positioned in such a way in which wind and precipitation cannot enter.
· Dog houses must have abundant dry bedding available inside.
· Dog houses must protect an animal against the weather a shelter such as a shed, garage or other large area that has temperatures that reach below 33 degrees Fahrenheit inside is too large to allow a dog to maintain adequate body temperature
