It is with heavy hearts that the Georgia State Conference NAACP announces the passing of John Battle, President of the Dodge County NAACP Branch and State District Coordinator under the leadership of 3rd Vice President, Gwen Westbrooks.

President Battle was a dedicated servant leader; he was an NAACP member through and through — unwavering in his commitment to justice, equality, and community. His passion for civil rights and the mission of the NAACP will never be forgotten. Please keep his loving wife, Wendy, the Battle family, and the members of the Dodge County Branch in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult and unexpected time. President Battle transitioned this weekend, but his work lives on!

We will be out of the office tomorrow to attend his homegoing service. Thank you for your understanding. For those who wish to attend his service, the details are as follows:

We’re so grateful we had the opportunity to honor you back in February. Your humility in accepting this recognition deeply moved all of us. The turnout was incredible—so many gathered to celebrate your impact. You heard, firsthand, the heartfelt tributes that spoke of your influence and kindness. For Eastman and Dodge County, you will always be remembered as the G.O.A.T. Your legacy and presence will never fade. You fought a valiant fight, completed your journey, and stayed true to your faith. Rest in peace, Mr. Battle.
