05-04-2024 10:06 PM Flooding in the south western portion of eastland county and in Rising Star. highway 183 and Highway 36 are flooded throughout Rising Star. Please do not attempt to drive down Highway 183 or highway 36 at this time. first responders are in the area helping others. Please stay away from the area. Turn around don't drown. The Sheriff's Office has been receiving numerous calls of another scam going around. Registered S*x Offenders are being targeted in which they are being told need to pay money over the phone to avoid a warrant being issued. The Sheriff's Office will NOT call requesting money to be paid for any warrant or otherwise. No matter who you are. We prefer to talk about warrants in person. Also if anyone asks you to pay anything in Apple Card’s, Amazon cards, or bitcoin then you can bet it’s a scam. Please do not give out any personal information over the phone.

Throughout the day today someone has been calling businesses claiming to be “Detective Harris” or “Detective Brownlee” or other representative with the Eastland County Sheriff’s Office. This person has attempted to get information on employees that work for the business. These are fake calls using spoof numbers. Please do not give them any information. Do not give out your information over the phone to anyone. You can always call dispatch at 254-629-1728 and an actual deputy or officer will be glad to speak with you.

Update: 6:36 PM. It would appear that the good Lord has blessed us with several minutes of rain right on top of this fire. Crews are still cleaning up but any evacuations are being recalled at this time. Thank you

From Sheriff Jason Weger. There is a large grass fire moving North of 570 along Hwy 2461. If you are north of 570 in this area prepare to evacuate. More to follow
