Halley, our art therapist took the assignment seriously when we asked her to paint a mural that we would eventually turn into a wrap on one of the interior walls at Riverside. This week, with the help of Spotlight Graphics, Inc. , we turned that vision into reality.

“I envision a mural bringing the many artwork styles of our participants together without any one contribution overpowering the others or the mural design as a whole. Each section will showcase a specific client's signature art style in monochrome colors to become seamlessly integrated into the overall collaboration. “

The new school year is just around the corner, and Riverside participants are gearing up to return to work at UMass Dining, Amherst College, and other local campuses!

This week, Job Coach Rebecca has been helping participants prepare by practicing dining hall tasks in Riverside's café, including bussing tables and sorting dishes and silverware. These hands-on experiences help build the skills, confidence, and familiarity needed to succeed in the workplace.

When classes begin, participants will head back to campus with the ongoing support of Job Coaches like Rebecca as they continue building valuable workplace skills and independence.

On Tuesday, Riverside participated in a community conversation hosted by the Massachusetts Permanent Commission on the Status of Persons with Disabilities and MassAbility, thanks to an invitation from State Rep. Lindsay Sabadosa.

The event brought together individuals with disabilities, caregivers, advocates, and service providers to share feedback on important issues affecting those receiving DDS Services. Four Riverside representatives spoke, and others submitted written comments highlighting the need for employment supports, expanded services in Franklin County, increased funding for clinical services, and resources for individuals living with aging parents.

We're grateful for opportunities like this to help ensure the voices of people with disabilities and their families are heard and reflected in state policy.

THANK YOU to everyone who came out to get their cars cleaned yesterday by our staff and participants. We couldn't have asked for a better day, and for better supporters.

We also couldn't have asked for a better group of staff and participants, who volunteered their time. They came up with this idea months ago, and were so appreciated of everyone who came by to support Riverside.
