Nauset Light Preservation Society Nauset Light Preservation Society provides public tours of the light during the months May to October. Nauset Light is an active place.

We are a nonprofit (501 c3) organization and all proceeds to go maintenance of the lighthouse, oil house and 1875 keeper's house. We get many visitors coming around the grounds even when we are not giving tours. We do tours on Sundays May through October and also Tuesdays and Wednesdays during July and August. Our activity all depends on volunteer availability - so if you want to become a volunteer please send us email to [email protected]
We often have maintenance projects in progress to keep the lighthouse in good operational condition and to keep it looking like. This page will show these various activities in pictures and text so we will have an active history of the light available. If you would like to become a member and receive our yearly newsletter, please send email to [email protected]

We have decided to cancel our regularly scheduled public tour on Sunday, Sept. 27.

The storm is still ongoing, and while it doesn't seem to be as severe as forecast, it's still not going to be a very pleasant afternoon, and we are giving our volunteers the day off.

Thanks for your support, and we will be having tours on every Sunday in October, from 1:00-4:00 pm.

We're sorry that we have had to cancel our Full Moon Tour scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26. With the big storm coming, we probably wouldn't be able to see the Moon anyway!

We are still waiting to see if we will cancel Sunday's regularly scheduled public tour, but it doesn't look promising.

Please stay safe this weekend.

Today, let's remember 2 amazing women who loved and preserved the Nauset Light Keepers House. Miriam Lenzen Rowell and her husband, Colonel Lucian A Rowell purchased the home in 1957. They took it from a boarded up, neglected building to an updated, well loved home. When Miriam, now a widow, decided to sell in 1981, she turned down offers from rich people all over the world. She wanted someone who would love and care for her beloved house in it's next chapter. Miriam found the perfect person with Mary Daubenspeck vanRoden. The transfer of ownership was completed in January 1982. Mary spent many happy years loving, caring and enjoying her happy place. In 1996 the Lighthouse itself was moved back away from the cliff's edge. Mary fought to have the Light Keepers House and Oil House moved with the Lighthouse. She strongly felt they must remain together. In 1997 the Cape Cod National Seashore agreed to move both in exchange for the title and giving Mary a 25 year lease. Mary accepted.
So, let's all give a great big THANK YOU to Miriam and Mary. Without them, our beloved Light Keepers Cottage would probably not be here for us to enjoy.
