The Open Space Committee is reaching out to you to ask for your support for our 2023 CPA application to extend the ADA portion of the trail at Sandy Meadow.

The Open Space Committee is nearing completion of its work to create three interpretive signs that explain the uniqueness of the Sandy Meadow Open Space at 300 Sandy Meadow Way.

This unique open space is home to the rare habitats of Sandplain Grasslands and Sandplain Heathlands and the rare plants that thrive in these conditions.

Continuing its stewardship of this property, the Open Space Committee is filing a CPA application this year to extend the ADA portion of the trail around the bowl area by 950 feet. This will increase wheelchair access to three scenic areas and the interpretive signs that will be installed there.

We hope you will support our efforts with a letter of recommendation to the CPA committee for this project.

The Higgins family has a long history here in Eastham, which we celebrated Saturday, July 22nd at the Higgins Conservation Area.

In 2018, the family offered an 8.3 acre forested parcel to the Town for a bargain price. The agreement was that Community Preservation Act (CPA) funds for Open Space acquisition would be used, as this would ensure that the parcel be preserved as a natural area.

This purchase was approved by Town Meeting in 2019, and the Higgins family are thrilled that the trails are regularly enjoyed by walkers and joggers.

Did you know that the eastern coyote is part wolf? As the western coyote spread east, it hybridized with wolves and what we see now we call the coywolf.

It's coyote breeding season here on the Cape. This means you might have more coyote sightings than usual as they are out all day long right now.
