This past weekend, my wife and I were talking about just how supportive my parents were.

She asked me what percentage of our lives I thought my parents had supported, believed in, or shown up for my sister and me.

Without thinking, I responded, “100%.”

“Do you understand how rare that is?”

I thought about the conversation with my mom and dad when I told them, at age 40, that I was gay.

“Why are you crying?” my dad asked me.

“Because I want you to think I’m good.”

“Katy,” he said, sighing. “How could we think anything but?”

Years later, he gave an impromptu blessing at our wedding:

“Do not bow your head, and do not close your eyes. Witness this beautiful marriage — absolutely beloved in the eyes of God.”

Every gay kid-including the ones who figure it out a little later in life- deserves parents like Kit and Jerry.

We are so proud to support St. Joseph’s House.

Thank you to the hundreds of generous people at St. Joan of Arc and Our Lady of Lourdes today. We are tallying up your gifts- and can’t wait to see how many new beds we will have for St. Joseph’s House!

Did you know? 44% of the people staying at the St. Joseph’s Shelter in Hyannis are 55 or older. Many are seniors who worked their whole lives, lost a spouse or a lease or their health, and have nowhere else to go.

The face of homelessness on Cape Cod is changing. It looks like our parents, our former teachers, our retired neighbors. It looks like the people we already know.

Our shelter is built around them. Three meals a day on-site. A new 3 PM curfew so guests are safe inside each evening. Case management to help them find permanent housing. And — at our new location — a Duffy Health Center clinic next door, open to the whole community.

When you hear the conversation about our shelter, please remember who is actually inside.

It's Memorial Day Weekend, and we are all about St. Joseph's House in Hyannis.

Give online, or come to any mass this weekend at St. Joan of Arc in Orleans or Our Lady of Lourdes in Wellfleet.

Today is Jerry’s birthday. He’d be 73.

-Have a conversation with a neighbor.
-Drop of a bag of towels or food at the animal shelter.

Last weekend, Kit and Jerry’s neighbors held a walk around the neighborhood in their honor.

People came out of their homes to join the walk as it passed by, and then everyone gathered at a neighbor’s house for cookies and lemonade.

They would have loved it! 😊

Hoodies and T-Shirts will be available for pickup over the weekend on the Cape (we sent a text this morning), and pickup on the South Shore/Shipping early next week!
