CHIEF SHANE EDMISTEN RECOGNIZES OFFICERS FOR COMPLETION OF ADVANCED PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS
LAVONIA, GEORGIA – November 3, 2025 – At the November 3rd City of Lavonia Council Meeting, Chief Shane Edmisten recognized officers for completing advanced professional certifications, highlighting the department’s commitment to leadership development, professional excellence, and service to the community.
The Lavonia Police Department is proud to acknowledge the achievements of several officers who have earned advanced professional certifications through the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Council. These certifications reflect the department’s dedication to continued professional development and enhancing the skills necessary to serve the citizens of Lavonia.
After completing basic mandate training, Georgia P.O.S.T. offers six additional certifications for career development: Senior Deputy (for Sheriff’s Deputies), Supervisory, Management, Intermediate, Advanced, and Executive certifications.
This year, the following Lavonia Police Department officers earned one or more of these
certifications:

• Corporal Isaiah Crawford – Intermediate
• Corporal Ezra Segars – Intermediate
• Corporal Jonathan Merck – Intermediate, Advanced
• Investigator Justin Parten – Intermediate, Advanced, Supervisory
• Sergeant Jonathan Seay – Intermediate
• Sergeant Jay Thomas – Intermediate
• Sergeant Bobbi Johns – Intermediate, Advanced, Supervisory
• Lieutenant Mikenzie Phillips – Intermediate, Advanced, Supervisory
• Lieutenant Wayne Mitchum – Intermediate, Advanced, Supervisory, Management, Executive
• Lieutenant Josh Akins – Intermediate, Advanced, Supervisory, Management, Executive
• Deputy Chief Daniel Carson – Intermediate, Advanced, Supervisory, Management, Executive
Chief Edmisten and the command staff remain dedicated to providing ongoing training opportunities, ensuring that the Lavonia Police Department continues to meet the highest standards of modern policing.
