June is National Pet Preparedness Month!
June 1st is also the start of the hurricane season.

TAKE ACTION TODAY to prepare your family and pets!

1. PLAN AHEAD - Create a plan on what to do in a disaster or emergency. Where are you going to shelter? Where will your family meet?
2. PREPARE - Make an emergency To-Go-Bag for your pet.
3. PRACTICE - practice your plan with pets and family. Walk through the steps.

Sheltering (in order of preference)
1. Family or friend’s home
2. Pet friendly hotel
3. Emergency shelter that accepts pets (like a County Shelter with a County Animal Response Team)

On Memorial Day, we honor not only the brave human soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice, but also the thousands of military working dogs who served and fell alongside them. These four-legged heroes have protected troops, detected explosives, and saved countless lives since World War I.

Ways to Honor Our K-9 Heroes:

Visit a Memorial: Pay your respects at Military Working Dog National or State Monuments.

Support Living Heroes: Donate or send care packages to deployed and retired K-9 teams.

Learn Their History: Spend time reading about legendary canines like Sergeant Stubby (WWI), the most decorated war dog in history, or Cairo who participated in the raid that resulted in the death of Osama bin Laden. Or Lex: A bomb-sniffing German Shepherd who was severely injured by shrapnel but stayed with his dying handler, Corporal Dustin J. Lee.

New Jersey
Visit the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial in Holmdel to pay your respects to fallen handlers and service dogs who bravely served on the front lines.

We are sharing this post because everyone deserves to know about the most amazing, caring, dedicated human beings on the planet. Beth Gammie has been doing God's work for 15 years by saving pets and helping people at the worst time of their lives. Beth has been leading and training for Red Rover for years and NJ was blessed to have her assistance during Hurricane Sandy. The Monmouth County Animal Response Team operated a CART Shelter for 4 long weeks due the destruction in the County. Beth (and Red Rover) came to Monmouth CART to help us in the latter half of deployment. This is where I met Beth. Her support meant the world to me and I am forever grateful for the time she gave. She is irreplaceable.
Enjoy your retirement Beth. You will be greatly missed. Thank you for sharing your heart and soul with the world.

May 8 is National Animal Disaster Preparedness Day.
Pets are members of the family and need to be included in your family’s emergency plan. They rely on us to care for them, especially in times of danger. Never leave them behind!

To prepare for disasters, follow these tips:
1. Plan: Create a plan on what to do in a disaster or emergency. Where are you going to shelter?
2. Prepare: Build an emergency to-go bag kit for your pet.
3. Practice: Practice your plan with family and pets.

Sheltering (in order of preference)
1. Family or friend’s home
2. Pet friendly hotel
3. Emergency shelter that accepts pets (like a County Shelter with a County Animal Response Team)

We are so grateful to Outword Magazine for featuring our Safe Housing Homeless Shelter Program in their March 11 issue! RedRover.org/SafeHousing

Did you know that studies show that over 90% of people would refuse to stay at a shelter if it meant leaving their pet behind? By permanently extending our Safe Housing grants to homeless shelters nationwide, we are ensuring that more people experiencing homelessness will be able to seek safe haven with their beloved pet by their side.

As John Thompson of Deep Roots family shelter shared, this shift changes everything. It means saying "yes" to the whole family — providing healing, dignity, and hope to those who need it most.

Our Safe Housing grants of up to $60,000 help shelters with:
Building and renovations 🛠
Pet care supplies 🐕
Veterinary care and transportation ⚕

Thank you, Outward Magazine, for helping us shout this from the rooftops!
