The Wenatchee Valley Misawa Sister City Association exists to strengthen the historical connection and friendship between the cities of Misawa, Wenatchee, and East Wenatchee through cultural exchange. The Wenatchee Valley Misawa Sister City Association was founded in 1981 to promote friendship and cultural exchange and commemorate the historic first non-stop trans-Pacific flight taking off from Mi

sawa and landing in Wenatchee in 1931. Each year the WVMSCA and the City of Misawa send their delegations of dignitaries, community representatives and students to attend their respective festivals - the Misawa summer festival held in August and the Apple Blossom Festival in Wenatchee each May. During the Misawa delegation visit to our valley, the Association hosts and coordinates a variety of tours and events and finds host families to provide our Japanese guests with a once in a lifetime experience and opportunity to enjoy our lifestyle and hospitality. Our delegation is made up of local dignitaries, school students between the ages of 12-18 and various business and professional people who are active in our Valley. Details regarding the trip, applications for consideration, rules and regulations may be found on the Association's website at www.wenatcheevalleymisawa.org or by contacting Teresa Allen at the City of East Wenatchee at 509.886.5385. The WVMSCA is a non-profit organization with the only income coming from annual membership dues and various fund-raising events. Membership is open to all through individual, family and business classifications. You do not have to be a member of a delegation to become a member or support our association.

2026 Misawa Sister City Delegation Arrives in the Wenatchee Valley!

On this warm, sunny Wednesday, the delegation arrived in the Wenatchee Valley after a 3-hour bus ride from Seattle. Their first stop in the Valley was the Pybus Market in Wenatchee, where they were welcomed by dozens of community members with friendly handshakes. After lunch, the students (and a few adults!) enjoyed a ride on the mini train at nearby Riverside Park.

Then, it was time to head to Pangborn Airport in East Wenatchee for the official welcome ceremony. The bus that brought them there was decorated with none other than Miss Veedol!
They were greeted by Mayor Mike Poirer of Wenatchee and Mayor Jerrilea Crawford of East Wenatchee, airport officials, and this year’s Apple Blossom Royalty. The student ambassadors finally met their host families, who have graciously opened their homes to them for the week.

In the evening, host families, volunteers and community members gathered once again at the Wenatchee Valley Museum for a welcome banquet, and got to know this year’s delegates. There were also some reunions with Wenatchee locals who visited Misawa as members of last autumn’s delegation.

The student ambassadors’ nerves seem to have blown away in the wind since arriving in the Wenatchee Valley. They put their best efforts into actively communicating in English with their host families during dinner, and did a great job introducing themselves in English in front of everyone!

The delegation’s time in the Valley is just getting started, and there is so much more exchange to come!

Sunday is always a bittersweet day for us as the delegates spend their final day in the Wenatchee Valley and we begin our goodbyes.
We started the day with one of the annual highlights; flights over the Wenatchee Valley compliments of the Spirit Of Wenatchee group who built the replica Miss Veedol and maintains the beautiful plane.
Thanks to Bob's Classic Restaurant & Distillery for delicious burgers for lunch! Thanks to Wsu Master Gardeners of Chelan County for the tour of the Misawa Bridge of Friendship Japanese Garden. A huge thank you to Pybus Public Market for hosting us for a beautiful farewell banquet in the events rooms. And finally, thank you to our banquet sponsor Selland Construction for your generous support which allowed us to provide an amazing meal to our delegation. Tomorrow morning we will say goodbye; the tears have already begun!
