Early Christmas for Gummi Bear!!
Although he's made good strides with his behavior issues, he still needs to be crated in the house. Hopefully this new deluxe crate will be more comfortable!!

Breaking ground on a new enclosure!!
This will make number three. The goal is to eventually have at least 15 pens and 4 large run areas. :-)

Gummi Bear really enjoys having a nice, big dog run. I just wish we had a bigger door! Lol :-D

Take two!! Lol
After careful consideration decided to rework the electric fence aspect of the dog run. For a dog like Gummi Bear, if he actually did get shocked it could throw him into a frenzy and we want to keep him as stress free as possible. So I dug 400ft worth of trench and buried a second layer of fencing. I think this is the best way to go. :-)

Finally got the fence all put together and set up, but this weather isn't cooperating to do a good test run. It's either too hot or raining, lol!
The neighbors are donating a giant, homemade dog house that we will put in for shade and protection.
Progress every day!!
(I'm realizing now that maybe I should've taken more photos along the way... oh well, at least the work is done!)

After a week now with Gummi Bear it is clear he has some behavioral issues that make him unadoptable.
Grooming was trial and error. He was scared to be on the table, have water sprayed on him, have his nails filed, or have his coat blow dried. So we bathed him in a kiddie pool, towel dried and trimmed his nails with cutters. All while using a full muzzle for safety. This could just be that he never had these things done for him before or that he was abused in some manner. It's clear that his tail has been broken in at least two places at some point.
He is also Highly food aggressive towards other animals. Lost a duck because I made the mistake of leaving him unattended with his food dish and she got too close. This could also be the result of his previous care because he is underweight like he might not have been getting enough food and he is not aggressive towards me when I mess with his food dish. He also seems starved for attention. He's super cuddly! He constantly wants petted and if you stop he paws at you and if you try to walk away he stands in front and nuzzles into you.
Time will tell if he can recover from these issues, but if not he will always have a home here at Galloping Meadows. Gummi Bear is exactly the type of dog we are here to save. Dog's with issues that make them unadoptable and that make shelter life so miserable for them to the point that it's best to just put them down. Out here they can have peace and quiet, their own space, and plenty of food so they're never hungry.

Getting the posts set so we can hang the fencing. Hopefully have a nice area for Gummi Bear to run free by the end of the week!

Today we tackled nails. Poor guy had a dew claw grown right up to the pad! :-(

Gummi Bear seems to be in fair health. He is a little underweight and has some rashes from matted fur, and he has 2 really bad teeth I can see. He also does not have any vaccinations so he will need to go to the vet pretty directly.
FB will not allow us to set up donations until we are approved as a Nonprofit. If you would like to donate to help with Gummi Bear's vet costs please visit https://www.gofundme.com/galloping-meadows-animal-refuge
Thank you!

Galloping Meadows is dedicated to offering refuge to any animal in danger of being put down because they cannot be otherwise placed in a reasonable home. We currently have 2 dog kennels and one dog run half complete, but we have room for so much more! Monetary donations would be easiest, but we...
