Super excited about the work we did to improve the entrance area at the garden. The grey metal raised bed will be our community herb garden. The two standup or wheelchair beds are much more accessible with this arrangement. Plus the whole area feels so much nicer.

We could use more of the thick rubber matting. If you have a source, please let us know.

This is soooo true!
Here at the Community Garden it’s time to clean up our plots, install more raised beds, FILL those beds (lots of work!) plant garlic, KEEP harvesting, repair the fence, and more!
Already thinking about next season and how to make it even better, although this season was so awesome, it will be hard to beat!
(Could have done without the bunnies though. 🤨😉).

I’m going to be digging up one of my strawberry patches. Approximately 3’ x 5’. Hate to throw them away. If you would like them, we can arrange for you to pick them up.

The gardens are doing fabulous this year. Garden wide spraying with milk solution has kept the mildews and blights away. New raised beds with good soil /compost mix are overflowing. In fact most of the gardens could have been cut back and thinned for even better results.
WORST year ever for bunnies!!! So frustrating!!! We put SO MUCH work and efforts into making our fencing “bunny proof” only to have rabbits who apparently stand on their hind legs to reach the plastic easy to chew through fencing above our metal bunny guard fencing. Arggggghhhh!

One ground plot has opened up for a new member. Call 989-362-3449 to get signed up.
Edit: Taking names for waitlist. Every year life happens and someone that signed up can’t garden after all. So being on the waitlist may get you a plot.

We have garden plots available for rent. Please join us for our garden signup and work bee event this Saturday, May 2, at 11am. The garden is situated at the corner of Sawyer and West State in East Tawas. As a member of our garden community, you will have access to an automatic watering system, tools, and guidance as needed. The total cost for the season is $45, which includes a $15 plot fee and a $30 water fee. For further details, please contact us at 989-362-3449.

It appears that we will have one ground plot and one raised bed available for this season. For more details, please call 989-362-3449. The garden is a project of Sunrise Side Master Gardener Association, offering tools, an automatic watering system, and support for those who would like it.
The garden is located at the corner of West State and Sawyer Streets just a block away from downtown East Tawas.
