Governor Shapiro has just signed into legislation an income limit of $45,000 for seniors & those with disabilities to qualify for their property tax rebate. They can also now receive a maximum rebate of up to $1,000, which was previously a maximum of $650. Their annual cost of living adjustment with their social security that was much needed, yet still not keeping up with the cost of inflation, was gradually pushing them out from qualifying for this rebate. Yet, the school districts in Monroe County, which also offer a local property tax rebate, have income limits set, depending on what district, from $20,000 to $35,000. Our seniors who live on fixed incomes could really use some assistance. If the governor sees it fit to increase the income ceiling to qualify for the rebate, so should our local districts. Let’s advocate for our seniors & reach out to our local school boards to increase their income limits for the local rebate.
