Did you know there are TWO baptismal records for Rev. John Wing? Apparently the cleric made a copy of the earliest records. There are some MAJOR differences between the two records.
The copy was written in English and stated John Wing, son of Mathew and Mary Wing was christened 12 Jan 1584. The original record had John Wing, son of Mathew and Marian Wing, baptized 12 Jan 1584, BORN Jan. 8th.
This original record had borth John's date of baptism as well as date of birth. But it also revealed another hidden secret.
Mathew Wing married Marian Norman at St. Peter & St. Paul's Church, Chaucombe, Northamptonshire England on 7 Jul 1571 (Chaucombe is about 3 1/2 miles from Banbury). Their first child, Fulk(e) was baptized there 10 Oct 1571.
The next known child of Mathew was not baptized until Apr 1576 (at Banbury). Given this gap, I had assumed Mathew's first wife (Marian) died shortly after her only child was born, and Mathew then married someone with the given nae of Mary.
The original Parish record (written in Latin) makes it clear Marian and Mary are the same person. Thus we now know the mother of Rev. John Wing was Marian Norman.
An article regarding this discovery should be appearing in the 2023 Owl.
