The Make Health Happen is a community partnership working to promote healthy eating while increasing access to healthy food options in East St. In communities that lack close access to grocery stores, residents often depend on corner stores for their day to day food purchases. The choices at these stores often are limited to prepackaged and processed food while offering few healthy alternatives. R

esearch links proximity to grocery stores and access to food to poor health conditions such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease and some cancers. A healthy corner store initiative works with stores to improve access to healthy and affordable foods in city neighborhoods while providing nutrition education in the community.
