The SCA Local Arrangements Committee is putting out the call to members for informal meetups or repository tours around AGM.

Host a Member-Initiated Meetup
Member-initiated events are informal, in-person or virtual gatherings for members to connect, catch up, and talk about the organization. Funds are available to SCA members for refreshments and other expenses for casual meetups, happy hours, coffee chats, or regional gatherings. Please get in touch with [email protected] or [email protected] with questions.

Call for Repository Tour Hosts
Are you interested in welcoming AGM attendees for a behind-the-scenes look at your repository? We’re seeking members across California who are willing to host informal tours of their facilities, collections, or workflows before and during the SCA AGM.
To volunteer as a host, please email Local Arrangements at [email protected] and share your
location, what you could showcase, and any scheduling considerations.

Thank you for helping build a more connected and visible community—we can’t wait to share and visit the incredible work happening across California.

The SCA Education Committee is hosting a pre-AGM workshop titled "Discovering Your Leadership Story: An Interactive Leadership Workshop." The virtual workshop will take place on Tuesday April 14 at 1 p.m. This workshop will take a unique, interactive approach in which participants will dive into four leadership approaches as personified by the characters in "The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse" by Charles Mackesy. By examining the characters' strengths and challenges, participants will create their own
leadership stories. Knowledge of the book is not required to attend the workshop.

The cost is $50 for SCA members, $60 for non-members, and $40 for student members or unemployed/precariously employed individuals. You do not need to register for the AGM to attend the workshop. Register here:

The Society of California Archivists Awards nomination deadline has been extended to Friday, March 13, 2026. We invite you to help us recognize the outstanding work, service, and dedication of archivists and archival programs across California. Award recipients will be honored at the 2026 Annual General Meeting in April, and we hope you’ll consider submitting a nomination.

Career Achievement Award
For a colleague with an outstanding archival career in California, including significant contributions such as establishing archives, teaching, mentorship, or writing.

Archival Award of Excellence
For a colleague who has made an exceptional contribution to the archives profession in California within the past five years.

Sustained Service Award
For an SCA member who has provided exemplary service to the Society over a period of at least 12 years.

Archives Appreciation Award
For a California agency, organization, or institution that has provided extraordinary support for archival programs, including public service, exhibits, outreach, or arrangement and description.

Now Accepting Applications for the 2026 Western Archives Institute!

The Western Archives Institute (WAI) returns July 20-31, 2026 for an intensive, two-week online program that offers integrated instruction in basic archival practices through a diverse curriculum of synchronous sessions that will be led by the principal faculty member, Dr. Christopher (Chris) Prom. Dr. Prom currently serves as the Coordinator of Sponsored Research Development and Acting Head of the History, Philosophy, and Newspaper Library at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He has extensive experience in archives, has taught several courses for the Society of American Archivists (SAA), and was recognized as an SAA Fellow in 2010 for his contributions to the organization and archives profession.

The Society of California Archivists is excited to announce that registration for the 2026 Virtual Annual General Meeting is now open! “Shifting Ground: Preserving Memory Amid Upheaval”
will take place Wednesday, April 15 through Friday April 17, with the annual SCA Leadership meeting (open to all members) and SCA Board Meetings to be announced. Two pre-conference
workshops will be offered Tuesday, April 14. For more information, check out the calarchivists.org website under the ‘Education & Events’ tab.
