A message from Jerry Honig’s niece.

It is with great sadness that our family shares the passing of Jerry Honig, longtime math teacher, baseball coach, and assistant principal at East Rockaway High School. Jerry began teaching at East Rockaway in 1962 and spent 33 years serving the district. Over those three decades he taught generations of students, coached baseball—including a championship team in 1971—and advised many school activities, from the yearbook to the National Honor Society. He believed strongly in building real relationships with students and took pride in being part of a school community that meant so much to him.

One of Jerry’s greatest joys in retirement was attending class reunions and reconnecting with former students and colleagues. He loved hearing the stories people remembered from his classroom—even many years later. Ever the math teacher, after retiring from East Rockaway in 1995, Jerry continued teaching at Nassau Community College and Hofstra University for many years and remained deeply grateful for the decades he spent in education and the students whose lives intersected with his.

Funeral services for Jerry will be held this Sunday, March 8th at 10 am at Gutterman’s Funeral Home in Rockville Centre. All are welcome.

Rock Pride is strong and we need a few “new or returning “ board members to support the ERHSAA to grow back to the original vision.

🧡🖤 THIS FACEBOOK PAGE OF THE EAST ROCKAWAY HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION 🧡🖤
celebrates its two-month anniversary tomorrow. Yes, the 28-year-old ERHSAA created this page on April 27, 2014 with Richard Meagher (Class of 1956) and Genie Kubat (Class of 1969) leading the effort. New blood, new ideas, and a developing new vision were called for, as the ERHSAA had drifted into a state of hibernation.
Eighteen alumni gathered in the Band Room on the evening of June 13 to begin the "rejuvenation" process. From this group came forth an "ERHSAA Revitalization Committee" chaired by Michaelene Abbott-Cooper (Class of 1986) and Liz Neary Franks (Class of 1998). They were joined by Communications Coordinator Dan Caracciolo (Class of 1998) who has already made initial contact with some hundreds of you elsewhere on Facebook. Dan will begin posting here as well on behalf of the "ERHSAA Revitalization Committee".
We will continue to look back and honor the past -- but look out, folks! Michaelene and Liz (and Dan) will also be leading us into an exciting future! Try to give them a hand -- a helping hand as well as a welcoming round of applause! We are all Rocks!

Now we Want All interested Alumni to carry us in to the future who wants to see this happen once again for the East Rockaway Alumni??
