Missing K-9 Officer

On June 7, 2026, K-9 Officer Elliot went missing following a training exercise at the Craven County Sheriff’s Office, located at 1100 Clarks Road New Bern, N.C.

K-9 Elliot was last seen entering the woods near the Sheriff’s Office.

Anyone who sees K-9 Elliot is asked to contact Craven County Communications at 252-633-2357.

This weekend, we pause to remember the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

Memorial Day is more than the unofficial start of summer. It is a day of reflection, gratitude, and remembrance for those who never came home, and for the families who continue to carry their legacy forward.

At 10-42 K9 Inc., we also honor the military working dogs who served alongside our nation’s heroes in combat zones around the world. These loyal partners stood watch, detected threats, protected lives, and faithfully carried out their missions without hesitation.

Freedom is not free. It has been secured through the courage, sacrifice, and devotion of generations of American service members and their K9 partners.

This weekend, we remember them.

10-42 K9 is currently seeking a respected and experienced Search & Rescue K9 Professional to serve in an advisory and leadership role within our organization.

We are looking for someone with real-world operational credibility within the SAR K9 community — not simply a hobbyist or recreational handler.

Ideal candidates may include:
✔️ FEMA USAR backgrounds
✔️ Wilderness Search & Rescue professionals
✔️ Disaster response experience
✔️ Operational deployment backgrounds
✔️ SAR trainers, evaluators, or leadership personnel

This role would help support:
• Evaluation and placement standards
• Handler screening and recommendations
• Training and certification guidance
• Long-term program development
• Maintaining operational credibility and professional standards

To be clear:
This position is NOT focused on managing or building an operational SAR deployment team.

10-42 K9’s primary mission is centered around the dogs themselves — specifically evaluating, retraining, and placing former military, law enforcement, and working dogs into qualified service-oriented roles, particularly Search & Rescue.

While we maintain a limited in-house mutual aid capability for times of major disaster or emergency need, our focus is not becoming a large-scale deployable SAR organization.

Our focus is building a respected, professional, and credible working dog placement and transition program.

We are looking for someone who understands:
• certifications
• operational standards
• deployments
• handler expectations
• what separates real operational readiness from social media optics

🚨 K9 EXCELLENCE ON DISPLAY 🚨

Congratulations to DFC Hendrickson and K9 Atlas of the Calvert County Sheriff's Office for taking home 🥇 1st Place out of 20 elite K9 teams at the 2026 Capital K9 Trials held at Joint Base Andrews Air Force Base.

This wasn’t just a local competition. The event brought together top police and military K9 teams from across Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia to compete in demanding real-world scenarios involving:
• Explosive ordnance detection
• Narcotics detection
• Obedience
• Criminal apprehension

These trials showcase what true operational readiness looks like — discipline, trust, training, and the unbreakable bond between handler and working dog.

Events like this remind the public that behind every successful K9 deployment are countless hours of training, sacrifice, and commitment from both the handler and the dog.

Held during National Police Week, this achievement is a testament to the professionalism and capability of today’s law enforcement K9 teams.

We are not simply looking for “someone who worked a dog.”

We are looking for someone with real operational credibility and leadership experience within the working dog community.

Ideal candidates may include:
✔️ Active or retired Law Enforcement K9 Supervisors
✔️ USPCA and/or NAPWDA backgrounds
✔️ Trainers, evaluators, or program managers
✔️ Experience building or overseeing K9 units
✔️ Strong understanding of working dog standards, selection, and deployment

This role would help support:
• Intake and evaluation of incoming dogs
• Placement screening and recommendations
• Policy and training standards
• Agency and community credibility
• Long-term operational development of our program

🚨 OPERATIONAL UPDATE | EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT 🚨

10-42 K9 is closely following reports that former U.S. Navy SEAL Cameron Hamilton has once again been nominated by President Trump to serve as Director of FEMA.

Hamilton became widely known in the emergency management and disaster response community for his outspoken criticism of FEMA’s response efforts in Western North Carolina, particularly regarding operational coordination, resource deployment, and accountability during disaster operations.

As an organization rooted in emergency management, K9 operations, disaster response support, and mutual aid readiness, we understand firsthand how critical strong leadership, field experience, and operational decision-making are during times of crisis.

Regardless of politics, emergency response agencies function best when leadership understands real-world field operations, logistics, communications, interagency coordination, and the needs of responders and affected communities alike.

We will continue monitoring developments surrounding FEMA leadership and national emergency preparedness initiatives moving forward.
